re: Grass Seed - Seeking advice from those w/ experience

First thing there is a big difference between rye and zoysia. Rye seed will grow by just broadcasting. Thats alot of the reason why people plant it. Little effort medium reward. Try that with zoysia and you will get no effort no reward. Rye is a cool season grain that when it sprouts and the roots are exposed (at its most vulnerable state)there is less chance of the roots being burnt up. Also if the rye does shade the zoysia seed enough to not burn up the roots the rye has a root system that grows out instead of down and you run into what we call root bound. No room for the roots of the zoysia to grow so disc and plant it right if you want the reward
