I think you're right with that...even though he wrote and produced the majority - this one he directed and I think they really promoted the episode before it aired and there was this..."we have to watch...Spielberg is doing TV!" You just assumed it was going to be quality - going to the movies for free back then. This is 1985 - E.T./Raiders/Temple of Doom were still fresh in the mind.
