I have three flintlocks.
All were built by a guy on the westbank about 30 years ago. None are "brand names". I have a .50 cal, .45 cal, and a .25 cal.
All shoot roundballs with patches, all use true black powder. My favorite is the .25 cal which I use for squirrel hunting, it's a real kick to chase squirrels with it.
I try and shoot them at least once a month to keep up the shooting skills. Shooting flintlocks WILL make you a better shot having to hold on the target longer.

Do you recommend any particulare commercial rifles?
What about gear?
I know they will delay fire, my sidelock has even done this once or twice.
How distracting are the sparks flying around your face?
