What would Usain Bolt's 40 yard dash time be?

Read an article today that said that Bo Jackson had the fastest 40 yard dash ever at NFL combine at 4.12 seconds. When you look at Usain Bolt run, it seems to be he takes some time getting up to speed. But once he hits cruise mode, nobody can touch him in the 2nd half of the 100 meter sprint. But since the 40 yard dash is only 36.58 meters long, do you think Usain Bolt could beat Bo's 40 yard dash record?

If Bo ran it at this years combine at his peak physical form he couldn't run a 4.12.

Maybe but that is completely irrelevant considering it was hand timed. The fastest real combine time was 4.24 (I believe) by Chris Johnson.
Bolt is notoriously a slow starter (all relative of course). I'd say he would run a 4.25-4.30.

What??
Bolt would probably run easily close to a 4 flat, nfl combine times are on the runners movement and not on a gun like in track and field.

One day people will learn that track stars are so much faster than football players. They don't have to worry abut catching balls, avoiding tackles, and building muscles to protect and cushion the body from the shear force of a tackle.

seriously, these guys spend years developing their bodies and form to be perfect runners. The guys spend a few months before the combine.

I bet Lebron James could be an Olympic Pole Vaulter if he wanted too.
Thats why that whole basketball players playing football thing irritated the hell out of me. Totally different skill sets. Yes, there have been basketball players that have migrated to Tight End, but its not like Antonio Gates or Jimmy Graham were setting the basketball world on fire.

No the frick he would not. Trindon ran a world class 60 meters, not to mention he was a quick starter, and he didn't go to the combine and beat that 40 time by Chris Johnson. Running the shorter distance is different then the 60m and especially the 100. I've never heard of anyone running a sub 4.2 with electronic timing. With Bolt's windup at the start I doubt he would be the guy that could do that. Bolt is the fastest guy to ever walk the planet once he gets going, I do understand that. lol

Actually, he is right, relatively speaking of course. Bolt's "weakness" is the start of the race where he is almost never in the lead until about 30-40 M in, and then he blows the fricking doors open. However, his "slow" start is pretty much a non-issue for an NFL combine because they use a laser timing system, not a gun. Also, there would be other factors that could affect Bolt's time a little bit. Is he allowed to wear his custom spikes, speedsuit, does he run on a track or on turf? Either way, Bolt would be sub 4.2. How far under? No fricking idea.
By the way, Bo's time does not count, since it is a hand time. I would guess that Bo ran roughly 4.38 (since .24 is sometimes added to hand times), but there is no way to know for sure. Chris Johnson's 4.24 is almost assuredly faster.
To the person who mentioned Trindon Holliday, Holliday is not in the same stratosphere as Bolt. Holliday has a PR of 9.95 the last time I checked, while Bolt ran a 9.59. Bolt is a fricking freak. The second fastest person in the world is either Tyson Gay or Asafa Powell, not some football player.

Bolt would beat trindon at almost any distance so this is really a non issue.

I'd bet Holliday would be tough for Bolt to beat in a 40 yard dash (not saying Holliday would beat Bolt in the 40, I just think that short of a distance would be close). Just because a guy is the fastest in the world at 100m doesn't mean he is the fastest at 40 yards though. It is a completely different thing.

Bolt is unquestionably the best in the world by a landslide, so a tiny early lead is not totally surprising, but he has run plenty of races where he was not leading in the first 2 to 3 seconds.

This is still true. It is the worst part about his racing. However, it is still world class.

The no the frick he would not was directed at your notion that Bolt would run a 4 flat. He wouldn't. I'd be shocked if Bolt could do a 10 yard or 20 yard sprint faster then Trindon from a dead stop.

You are really overrating Holliday. No offense. Bolt would destroy Holliday.

ANYTHING over 60meters and my money is on bolt. Even Micheal Johnson in his prime. The DUDE is a machine.

Do the same with Chris Johnson's 4.24. If it were so easy to run a sub 4.2 then why hasn't anyone done it? I don't care about Holliday, I'm saying these track guys can't run a 4 flat 40 and they are a lot closer to "football" players times in a distance that short.
