Thank god.

Most of the names mentioned so far are not homerun hires.

About the best I've seen is Raymond and even he is a question mark. At least he has NFL experience playing DB and went to a major college FAST after being a graduate assistant. That is very rare. Must say something about his ability to coach. Don't know how good a recruiter he is but I doubt he is a downgrade in that area. If he can evaluate talent and recruit better than Cooper, give him a shot.

I think he'd be hungry getting a LSU offer anyway.

I think Michigan State has a guy that was a GA at LSU in 03. He might be a name to watch.

along with steele & chavis being connected, brick was steele's dc at baylor, that would be a lot of staff familiarity

I see little upside in hiring Zook. The guy is not going to stick around as a DB coach and every recruit he pursues will know it.

Wow could you guys imagine having Les, Chavis, and Zook all on the coaching staff. Those are 3 very established coaches. I think it would be great for us.

Also, I suspect it was Chavis that selected Cooper when he was hired. I'm sure Chavis is given a lot of freedom to select who is on his staff. Miles should be careful to do pretty much anything Chavis wants.

Les Miles hired Ron Cooper. John Chavis did not. You are correct in Miles allowing Chavis latitude in making this hire.

This is just totally random speculation on my part, but this guy is interesting:

it better be a guy who can recruit his arse off. chavis is the guy who developed berry. chavis is also the guy who put TM7 in a position to make plays around the line of scrimmage. TM7 success has nothing to do with his play as a COVER CORNER but everything to do with scheme. thats all chavis. cooper gets credit for claiborne, chavis gets credit for TM7 and nobody gets credit for PP7 since he was the best pure talent at LSU in the LM era.
