I think Dark merits consideration solely as a manager, but it's borderline. But combined? Only Joe Torre has a better player/manager case in the past 50 years.

There is a lot of circumstantial evidence to indict Dark. It's not coming out nowhere, though the Giants were one of the most quickly integrated teams. And the 70s A's were pretty diverse... though they all hated Dark because, well, those guys hated everyone. Can you imagine how miserable their locker room was? In their defense, you'd be a bitter employee too if you had to play for Chuck Finley, who really was a miserable bastard.
