quote:as a texan fan, i am totally in favor of peyton to the texans with one caveat: hes healthy enough to play. obviously we have no idea where he is now or where he'll be in 8 months. but 90% of the peyton manning weve seen in the last 6 years is significantly better than anything schaub has ever dreamed of.
I seriously doubt it. Schaub is a good NFL qb and the Texans are poised to make a deep playoff run next year. I just don't see them taking a risk on Peyton Manning. I'm sure the Texans would pick up the phone if Manning calls but I just don't see them pulling the trigger.
schaub is a nice player, but has injury concerns of his own. 3 of the last 5 seasons hes missed significant time(5+ games), so hes not exactly reliable. a 5th rd rookie has more playoff wins and appearances than schaub. and this year is the last on his contract, so its not like taking on peyton manning would leave our franchise QB on the back burner in the middle of his contract. it actually works on perfectly. keep schaub for the year as insurance for peyton's neck. after a year, theyll know more and reevaluate.
the 3 most important questions are:
1. is he healthy enough to play at a high level?
2. is he willing to run kubiak's offense and run the ball more than he has in the past?
3. is he willing to take an incentive laden contract, b/c the texans dont have the cap room to give him $28M/yr

and lets not rule out bob mcnair in all this. getting peyton manning would turn the texans into a national story, and bob is all about getting attention.

Don't use that to knock Schaub he was very essential in getting the texans to the playoffs for the very first time in their franchises history.

Do you seriously think the Texans are going to pay Schaub and Manning plus do you think Schaub is going to accept being a backup? If the Texans get Manning Schaub is as good as gone.

While we're randomly speculating, simmer on this:

As the NFL readjusts to the problems that arise from spending that once again will be approaching the annual salary cap, there’s an important provision of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement that needs to be highlighted. Under Article 13, Section 6(b)(v) of the CBA, each team may carry over any remaining cap room from one year to the next by submitting written notice, signed by the owner of the team, to the league office no later than 14 days before the start of the next league year. The written notice must indicate the maximum amount of cap room that the team wishes to shift from one cap year to the next. This relatively simple device replaces past tools for carrying over cap space, which included (for example) loading up a renegotiated player contract with a phony “likely to be earned” incentive that would chew up space in one year and then trigger a refund to the cap in the next year. What’s odd about the new procedure is that teams must affirmatively choose to carry over the cap space. If a team wishes to be competitive, why wouldn’t all remaining cap space be carried over in any and every given year? The last time we updated the 2011 cap dollars, the Jaguars had $32.9 million in space. The Chiefs had $27.4 million, the Broncos had $25.6 million, the Bucs had $25.1 million, the Seahawks had $21.7 million, and the Bills had $20.9 million. The fans in each city should be clamoring for the maximum remaining cap room to be carried over, and the media in each city should be poised to get a full explanation if the full amount isn’t carried over.
