Basketball recruiting is remarkably national. It's like this everywhere.

That's mostly for the better players though, as for role players I'm unsure why LSU doesn't seem like a better option.

Same amount of scholarships, same amount of TV exposure (at least at the Top 6 conferences) anywhere in the country. Hell, even last night, as I went to sleep, I was flipping around through THREE West Coast Conference games. In 1988, St. Mary's, Portland, San Francisco would NEVER have been on TV.

In 1988, you absolutely had to try to get to a team that was in the top half of the BIG conferences, so you could be on CBS on Saturday or ESPN's Big Monday.

Now..... kids need to go where they can play immediately. The game WILL be televised. They need to play as early as possible, grow as a player, put together a highlight package. Chris Johnson (from LSU) is a perfect example. Averaged 7 points, 5 boards in college, put but together enough of a highlight reel to make it to an NBA bench. He came to LSU from the DC area.

It's not 1988 anymore. You don't have to be at Indiana, Syracuse or Kentucky (or playing against them at Purdue and LSU) to get noticed. You have just as good of a chance of getting drafted from Fresno State, San Diego State or Marquette.

Sadly, most LSU fans are stuck in 1988, and can't seem to move past it.
