And to this i ask why do we not claim this when even though we lost the last game of the season? Gumps did. in 1964 bama claimed themselves national champions even after having lost to texas in the orange bowl 21-17. And again in 1973 even after losing to Notre Dame in the sugar bowl 24-23. but then again they only lost by 1 so its not actually a loss.
1961 Season
Head Coach: Paul Dietzel

Final Ranking: 4
Sep. 23 Rice L 3-16 Houston
Sep. 30 Texas A&M W 16-7 Baton Rouge

Nov. 18 Miss. State W 14-6 Baton Rouge
Nov. 25 Tulane W 62-0 Baton Rouge
Orange Bowl
Jan. 1 Colorado W 25-7 Miami
Gump logic again! In 1965 Bama lost to Georgia to open up the season and won out to go 9-1-1 .
Lets just claim them. whatcha' say?

We have like 7 using Alabama logic. Maybe 8 if some computers gave us the title this season.
Posted on 2/3/12 at 10:27 pm to Ac16
Because bama logic is retard logic and we're not retards, so therefore we don't use it.

1908 would not be using Bama logic. We could legitimately claim that one without any controversy or snickering.
36 and 61 would be Bama-esque.
Oh and quit hatin'.

By Bama standards, we have 8 Natty's. By the standards that the rest of the college football world acknowledges, we have 3. I'm good with 3, but I wouldn't balk at 4(including 1908). The 1908 title is far more legit than at least 5 of Bama's "titles".

Bama logic? Some of you are under the impression that Alabama claims a title every year someone named us National champs and that is simply NOT true. LSU has a major claim to 1908 if they want. I would not have any complaints about it. All of our titles from 1961-2011 are all poll titles. The only one that anybody has a right to bitch at us about is 1941. And most of us hate that bullshite claim

If only that was how "Bama Logic" worked...

They didn't claim anything, they were named National Champs by the AP in 64 and the UPI (coaches poll) in 73. No poll was taken after the bowls in those cases.
Like it our not, those are legit. 1941 is the only really bogus one they claim and ones before 1936 and the first AP poll are suspect. They have 9 legit, post AP titles, that includes 64 and 73. Now if you want to point out they have been very lucky in some cases, ok. 64 as you noted they lost the bowl, but no poll was take after the bowls. In 65 the AP decided to do their final poll after the bowls and they were #4 going into the bowls, but #1 and #2 lost and they beat #3 NU, so they win 65 because others lost in bowls, despite winning a couple after they lost in bowls

I don't think anybody in the country would have a problem with LSU claiming the 1908 title.

Not using Bama logic (which is basically AP, UPI) but if you go by national championships awarded by various associations, publications, and polls, (Williamson, Dunkel, FWA, National Championship Assoc., Sagarin, FCA, etc; besides AP,UPI, BCS, ESPN/Coaches, USA Today, and in addition to NCs that were and/or would have been awarded at the end of the REGULAR SEASON, and/or ones that were not unanimous, then LSU has 9 in football:
1908
1935
1936
1958
1961
1962
2003
2007
2011
1 in basketball:
1935
In addition to 4 Final Fours, 6 Elite Eights, and 10 Sweet Sixteens
5 Consececutive Women's Final Fours
6 in baseball:
1991
1993
1996
1997
2000
2009
1 in Boxing
2 in Golf
1 in Tennis
And thirty something in track - mens and womens
indoor and outdoor
1908
1935
1936
1958
1961
1962
2003
2007
2011

the same could be said about LSU's NC in 2007....a 2 loss team? I'm both an LSU and a Bama fan so I see it from both perspectives. It's also pretty hard to compare seasons that happened so long ago, as 1908 and 1936 were, when college football was nothing in any way, shape, form, or fashion comparible to college football today or even 10 yrs ago. Even if you back to the 60's the difference in athletes is like the difference between night and day. If you don't believe me, go back to any team at all and compare physical statistics to todays' players. The difference is quite startling as any of you who've done it can attest. Just sayin....

While I am very proud of Bama's undefeated Rose Bowl champion teams, I'm even more proud of this-
