They make me nervous the boat will just roll off the trailer before I back all the way in. I've heard of it happening. No experience though. Not hard to change the carpet on one of your boards.

I use 2x6 treated and then cut starboard to fit each bunk. Used All stainless hardware. Works very well.
Got a whole sheet of starboard 1/2" it was 400.00. Was going to use it for something else but didnt work out so i used it on the trailer.

I know someone with a mowby boat. It has a roller bunk ttrailer. It is amazing. Boat goes on and off smooth as can be.

If your boat is fiberglas, I make sure the rollers are supporting an equal load at all times and that the structural members in the hull are directly over the rollers. Too much flexing of the gel-coat, in the wrong places, can result in stress cracks (and maybe worse).
If your boat is aluminum, forget all that I said.

I've seen them warp aluminum boats as well.

Rollers don't support as good as bunks. Over time they will warp out or put a hook in the bottom of the boat. The only way around this is to adjust the rollers to were they match all ribs in the bottom of the boat.
To the OP, if the carpet is wearing out on one side, your trailer bunks are not adjusted right for your boat. Chances are the center rollers are set to high or one bunk is set to low.
Next time you lanch your boat, take a good look at the carpet to were it is smashing down. If it is just in spots, readjust the pads or center rollers. Do have extra bolts and nuts along with a can of WD-40. Chances are you will break a few bolts unless your trailer is fairly new.

This is where I was going -- you said it a lot better.
There is rarely a good reason for rollers on a small boat.
