dale brown started recruiting Shaq when he was 13.

ETA: apparently, LSU has been after Ricardo Gathers since he was in 7th grade.

Sometime after Michael Jackson would have, but after Sandusky would be done with them. Around then.

Does that answer your question?

depends. some kids are natural studs and shine in the 9th grade. some grow into their bodies late. Usually, its around 11th grade and 16 years old. that's when you get a good picture of what their body/frame is gonna be like.

My son ,a lineman, started getting letters in the 11th grade. After a 10-0 season before playoffs in the 11th grade, the phone calls started and MANY letters. The 12th grade was inundated with calls and letters and requests for a week-end visit and BBall games and parents visit to the football office, trophies, building, stadium, study facilities, tutoring room, etc.

Well, my son started playing about the 6th game of his sophomore year.No contact. Junior year on Tuesday night, LSU started calling about October. When he got 2nd team All-District ,10-0, beat the #1 ranked team in the state, THEN, SEC calls and letters started. Offers from 5 SEC schools and all smaller schools came about late November early December Junior year. Senior year was overwhelmed with calls, letters, trip and visit offers, etc. That was our experience. I guess team success and winning got their attention.

My son is just in the 8th grade... I know he has a little while yet and I'm not saying coaches should be looking at him now. Im just wondering how to get his name out there and im not trying to do that here.. But He plays baseball and football for his school.. He is very solid at both sports. Baseball, he pitches and plays anyway in the infield... He is also a switch hitter and can hit it very well from both sides..Football, he plays TE, DE, and LB... Just trying to figure out how to give him the best opportunity available ..thanks for responses ..

Camps, websites such as www.berecruited.com, go to the school's website and fill out recruiting brochures. My son is a freshman and he has received a lot of interest in baseball from several JUCO and smaller schools. He also plays football, no interest yet, but he will be starting varsity as a soph so he could get some.
