The Rant's "Chicken Littleitis" has bled onto here so thoroughly...

I would like to make a couple of points.
1. The sky is not falling.
2. A couple of years ago we needed running backs, so we got a bunch of running backs.
3. Last year, we needed QBs so we got a bunch of quarterbacks.
4. This year, we need LBers in the worst possible way, so we're getting a bunch of LBers.
This class is fundamentally sound, in many ways, and will have some All American and All-SEC players come out of it, and yes, a handful who will play on Sundays - just like most LSU classes over the past 15 years.
LBers do not wow the recruiting services nearly as much as offensive skill position players or elite DBs and DEs.
We're getting arguably the nation's best long snapper, and he's the lowest rated player in the class, as well as one of the very best TE prospects. These things do not normally boost the recruiting rankings as much as landing an elite QB, RB, WR, CB, S or DE.
This kind of class, which is solid, if not spectacular, in its own right, is not a "problem" as long as it is sandwiched between elite classes.
I'm not trying to be a sunshine pumper - we lost two elite, in-state prospects to the angry little man from WV. We lost the big game and everyone wants to hang some higher significance on it. The Kiel debacle was certainly not our best hour. We have not, as yet, closed the deal on an elite player for 2012 (and we may not - so what?) to make us feel better about that.
However, we have a class that is roughly 1/3 LBers and we still rank fairly well, though not quite as well as the past half-dozen classes. We have about 8 to 10 guys in this class who are going to surprise many of the Chicken Littles.

All solid points. The only argument from the "chicken littles (which is sort of valid)," is that Alabama continues to dominate and has no need for these "fill" classes. They're our direct competition. We have to beat them to reach the goals that we aspire to.

Did you say "a COUPLE of points" ???

We got blown out the last time. When have we blown out them?

Someone on here had a post about how positions recruited can determine how a class can be ranked, which I thought was interesting.

If LSU can get 10 solid contributers from this class, there is nothing wrong with it.
Half of every recruiting class never even plays anyway. U can sign 25 5 stars and I promise you, there will be 10 that never even see the field.
We do need to follow this class up with a top 5 class next year though.

This type of rational posting should be banned IMO.

I said in another post and I'll say it again. People need to quit worrying about where we rank in a recruiting class. OP hit the nail on the head. LSU is recruiting for specific needs and not to amass stars and "elite" recruiting rankings.
UT recruits for stars and has a top 5 class consistently. Worked out well for them the last 2 years...

Large reason for their struggle has been the QB position. Sounds eerily familiar....

I've tried to make some points (like LSU's need to become more of an OOS recruiter), so I hope I didn't sound like someone with CLitis.
I really do think that unless we stop putting all of our eggs in the LA talent pool, we will have difficulties down the road. But all in all, I would much rather be undefeated going in the BCS title game than win recruiting championships like Texas and lose at home regularly.
As far as posters obsessions/fears of Bama, those fears were stoked to white hot with the BCS game. They were there before and now continue. That needs to be addressed.
Lets put the cards on the table. We're mad at Saban for taking the Bama job, but yet we all know he is a great coach and recruiter, and now is a school which has a blank checkbook for anything football related. He's done what he was hired to do.
That being said, we just need to accept that the man is just doing his job - winning games and titles. But at the same time, there are a lot of other top schools we are competing against. We don't have to win every recruit that Saban wants, he can only get 25 players and there a heck of a lot of good players that Bama won't get.
It was one game, it wasn't pretty, it hurt, it was to Bama and it was to Saban. OK. Get over it. We lost to a defense that will go down as one of the greatest ever. Sure JJ looked bad, so did the entire offense. There was no conspiracy theory. We just got beat. Remember, in reality, in the middle of the 3Q, we still were in reach of the lead. It wasn't 30-0.
Did I want to see JL? I think everyone did. But after thinking about it, it probably would not have mattered. What's done is done. Bama gets to hoist the crystal whether it's 21-0 or 21-20.
I think you have to let people vent for a few days, but this is getting ridiculous. If your child screws up badly, you get on him for a few days, then let it go and move on. To continually rehash one game when we've done so well for so many years, is not the way to go to move forward.
Please keep posting comments - that's the purpose of this forum - but do so as per the future and make it a discussion, not a rant. And BTW, a Rant is only a temporary thing. After that is becomes a Whine.
Chicken, how about a "Tiger Whine" board for those who can't move on???

Ha. I hear ya. People are just upset over our performance (not so much the loss, but the performance) on 1/9. Add to that the very public Collins commit to Bama and the Kiel thing...
The cuts run deep for many Tiger fans. Lot of invested emotion. Takes a while to heal.
But we'll all get over it...eventually.
Truth is, even though there may not be a lot of hype for this class, there are a couple of guys who might be able bring smiles to Tigers fans again. For example, a guy like the Dural kid from Breaux Bridge. He's a 4 star, I think, but seemingly hasn't generated a lot of hype. Haven't seen him live, but on film he looks very smooth, very athletic. I know he's not very big physically, but I think he could become a big time SEC performer. And you're right, the LBs could have an immediate positive impact.

I hate it when that happens. Great time of year for recruit watching/news. Terrible time of year to be a RB regular.

Yeah, it's tough to separate the wheat from the chaff this time of year.
Nature of the beast, I guess...

Quit being insecure and recognize how good of a program we really are.

And would you take the last win for losses in the prior two games? A win in that last game just by a point instead of even asking for a total domination and humiliation of the other team?
Anybody that says they would not swap AL for results from the last 3 games is full of it too.
