I play a smuggler gunslinger primarily, and my advice is to go scoundrel. I wish I had. Much more mobile, healing abilities, stealth, great stuns and melee attacks, and better utility overall. If you find the cover mechanic annoying during the early levels, you will loathe it once you go gunslinger.
