Well, I know that. I meant do we see a shift, including personnel changes to make it happen.

yeah but with 2 stronger running teams in the division...I don't think we're going to go TOO small up front

It's obviously a possibility we'd see it in certain obvious passing situations. With Will Smith and Cameron Jordan's size, they could be passable DTs for a few pass rushing plays. But this likely hinges on the development and Spagnoulo's comfort with Gallette and Romeus/whoever else to rush the passer from the DE position.

Yep. Loomis will be handing all of the DTs their walking papers.

I could see Martez Wildon dropping to DE. He looks like a DE out there. Dude is big

He really fits the mold of a 3-4 OLB, so yeah he could be utilized as a rush DE on passing downs. Problem is how well he adjusts to fingers on the ground; this could be an issue.

To answer OP's question, yes I do think we will see some 4DE lines. Smith and Jordan would fit well as rush DT's (especially Jordan; he has the build for a 3-4 DE) while Galette (our most consistent pass rusher this year; tremendous upside that Spags will tap into) and Charlston/Romeus will take over the edge duties.

Imagine a 3rd down nickel package with Galette and Romeus outside, Smith and Jordan inside, and Martez blitzing from the LB spot (Vilma in coverage). That would be sick.

Anyway, its not like he went to 4 DEs all the time. That was a specific package. We still need to get much better at interior pass rush from the DT position on regular downs, and get more angular, pass rushing DEs.

Galette Jordan Smith Romeus

Not difficult to see a package for that.

I thought the NY defensive line was majority 4 DEs? Don't they use Umenyiora, Pierre-Paul and Tuck quite a bit at the same time? Maybe that's just now, and not when he was there?
