I was going to give a reasonable response to Miles' philosophy and our stable of backs, but saw this and LOLed.

i agree with most, same offense from the first 8 games but id be up for taking even more chances with mett going deep. say we are in 2nd an 2 or 3. id be attacking down field knowing i will get 3 ypc from our backs.

i do think 25-30 passes would be idle in most games. it should be a pretty good balance, I also would like to throw more in blowouts and use them as practice.

Oregon - Lee (22 attempts)
N'Western State - Lee (10 attempts)
Miss. State - Lee (27 attempts)
West Virginia - Lee (28 attempts)
Kentucky - Lee (21 attempts)
Florida - Lee (10 attempts)
Tennessee - Lee (17 attempts)
Auburn - Lee (20 attempts)
Alabama - Jefferson (10 attempts)
W. Kentucky - Jefferson (14 attempts)
Ole Miss - Jefferson (7 attempts)
Arkansas - Jefferson (29 attempts)
Georgia - Jefferson (13 attempts)
Alabama - Jefferson (17 attempts)

I think Mett will hit the 30+ attempt mark 4 or 5 times this season. We'll still be a running team with Miles at the helm.

I think we'll strike a perfect balance. We don't need to sling it around 40 times a game but we do need to throw it 25 times the least maybe 27.

With the RBs we have and the O line we'll have, throwing will only open it more.

What about the other players on offense?

Will pass blocking be our most effective use of the line?

Will our receiver corps make a passing attack more effective than a rushing attack?

No way. Not with the running game the Tigers will have in place. Remember too that Mettenberger will be pretty accurate, throwing to some decent receivers which should limit his necessary attempts also. I'm guessing a split in plays something like 25 passing- 40 runs; on average. 430 ypg.

We will still be a running team...make no mistake about it. 20-25 passes on average.

IMO, yards per game are more important than attempts per game. If Mett can rack up good yardage, it's gonna open up the run game, which is gonna be LSUs bread and butter under Miles, no matter who is at QB or how bad our fans wants us to air it out.

We cannot afford to have 100 yard passing games and I dont expect us to. I'm hoping for multiple 300+ yard games. We start putting up good yardage and teams are gonna have to back off the LOS after he completes a few passes on them and then the run game should take over, which is what Miles wants anyway.

If he only passes 20 times a game, he's gonna put up more yards than Lee and JJ did.

He won't be the best tool available. The RB's are. Just because everyone is excited about Jefferson leaving and we finally get to see somewhat of a passing game, doesn't mean the offense should linger away from what won so many games in '11.

Let me explain it another way. LSU was considered a running team and averaged about 22 passes a game the first 8 games of the year, with Lee and the other QB's splitting time. In the end, LSU averaged 20 passes per game for a 14 game schedule which includes some notables where they passed 7,10 and 14 times a game. 25 passes a game isn't airing it out and I certainly don't think it's beyond the realm of expectation.

The offense wasn't required to do much this season, I don't expect next to be a carbon copy. LSU will throw it more than last, and 25 a game isn't even a questionable number. Miles himself as alluded to the fact that the offense will be different (not that I take everything he says as gospel) but considering who will be behind center, I am positive that LSU will throw more than 20 times per game on average.

So what if he does throw it for more than 30 attempts? Will you be butthurt that JJ never had 30 attempts?

he offense does not need to be overhauled, they just need to go back to the offense from the first 8 games and add some complexity and spread to the routes. It needs to be more pro-set in the passing game, not Big 10 Michigan in the passing game.

And get someone (OC) to develope the routes..

I hope we don't have to throw that much, however I think the we should throw it around a good bit early on in the season to establish the passing threat reassure the staff that we can throw it.

I would think that Miles goes away from the 2:1 ratio, goes at least 3:2, and probably closer to 1:1.

No. We dont need to throw alot more than we do, just be effective when we throw. That would be huge. Talk about open up a run game

Depends on the flow of the game, but I think 20-25 should be adequate if our running game will be as good as it's projected to be.

Same thing I was thinking. 20-25 should be enough to keep the D honest and still have an effective run game.

With an effective trigger man yes, and a balance would be nice. A balance would mean a little more passing than we had this year.

LSU was 22nd in rushing this year. Pretty good but not awesome considering how little we threw the ball.

Alabama averaged a yard more per rush than LSU, and AJ passed the ball 25 times per game. No one thought Bama was pass happy. In fact, Baylor, Wisconsin and Stanford all were better running teams than LSU and averaged at least 25 passes per game.

Anyone thinking 25 passes per game is some unrealistic number is just lost.

And how is this going to beat Alabama's bevy of 5-star DBs, LBs and DL? Alabama did a total beatdown of LSU and has outrecruited LSU every year. What is so difficult to understand? And BTW they have a 5-star plus coach while we have a high school reject coach.
