I've been in shellshock mourning since Saturday. Chad's eulogy stirred me back to life. It's like a hard death in a family. You absorb the pain then you look around and realize you are sharing it together. I'm proud to be a part of the Who Dat Nation. Most of the tard wave has passed here (they don't stay long) and we can begin the process of moving on.

My closing thoughts are more of an elegy than an eulogy. I'm a blues kinda guy and that was a lowdown blues sorta game.

Credit 49ers- Congrats to the silicon whatever and rock guy posters. They were fair and good natured. It must feel good. For the SF team I give credit that they created what kind of game it was. The PT knockout & the big early hit on Graham set the tone. They must have turnovers for success and got them. As we generally hope for our defense to be just "good enough" they do the same for offense. There offense was just good enough, our defense was not.

Like many of you at 0-17 I had full faith. When they started clawing back I stated we were watching something historic. You cannot expect to win any NFL game with 5 turnovers- all the more so against a tough defense. I was expecting though and it was happening.

As already threaded here ad nauseum, as bad as those 5 turnovers were, the last two Niner drives were even more painful. I give the 49ers their due but I think most everyone perceived that as more the Saints D blowing it than some overwhelming offensive force that couldn't be stopped.

The 2010 season end was a shocker but could be rationalized due to the staggering injuries. This team looked to be operating at an even higher plane the '09 SB winners. ...PAIN

My first step back though and I see this- 3 straight playoff years, cumulative 41-13 record in that time, the likely NFC South favorite for 2013, a HOF record breaking QB/leader... it's still the golden age of Saints football. The Payton era has had one of everything... a losing season, a .500 season, a wildcard loss, a divisional round loss, a NFCCG loss, and a SB win. As sweet as this could have been I can already savor the idea of having the first home field Super Bowl in 2013.

We have the Niners in NOLA next year. It will be interesting to see how the tone of that game will be after an offseason of personnel moves.

Goodbye 2011 Saints season, we loved you while you were with us.

Will be great to get them here next year. You know that's a prime time game. I'm sure we will kick the shite out of them, further allowing us to think "what if?"

Amen. Should be a fun offseason if there's a confirmed new DC, no lockout, some defensive prospects coming out of college, a couple extra picks in the draft....

Lookin forward to the 2012 Season.

As ugly as the game was early, the Saints fought back hard. I still can't believe the Saints Defense gave up those two long drives at the end of the game. I think it will be nice to get a change in defensive philosophy. The fact that we would be hosting the NFC championship game this weekend makes the loss to SF an even more difficult pill to swallow.

You know we've become spoiled when, as Saints fans, we're talking about a multi-record-breaking 13-3 season with a playoff win like a death in the family. Honestly though, that's how it feels. We all knew the potential this years team had and our expectations reflected that, as now does our disappointment.

We have a tough off season ahead with multiple personnel issues to address, but if we can come back with an offense even 75% as good as this one was and a half way decent and reliable defense, we're going back to the playoffs with a real shot at being the first team to play in a superbowl hosted by it's home city. Believe Dat!

The spoiled point is the only one that bugs me. It seems like you would have to be under 20 to not know what real pain and disappointment following the Saints has been about.

21 days and every team will be back to 0-0!

I didn't mean spoiled in a bad way. I was just pointing out that the juxtaposition of our current expectations of this team with the expectations of the past is rather spectacular. In other words, although we are supremely disappointed, let's not forget we are still very much in the geauxlden age of the Saints.

oh yeah, prolly not a purebred whodat if you were/are not heartbroken. But there is that other element... more of a pissy bitchin n moanin about how bad the team is cuz they didn't go all the way. Hate to relate it to college ball but I see a lot of primary NCAA football fans that way. Not good but more understandable cuz ya can build a perpetually contending program there. It's whole different competition scenario in the NFL that I don't think some really understand.

heartbroken is the right word.. but at the same time i was very proud of our boys fighting and clawing for 60 minutes. it just wasn't meant to be this year but look for the whodatnation to rise up again next season!!!!!

End of the mourning period

Still mad at the fact that I am just not into the playoffs right now and I love this time of year. Maybe that will change. Hope so. Football is a good reason to eat and drink well.

This loss was so much more crushing to me than any other game, ever.

I love our Boys so, so much.

But that game took at least 20 years off of my life.

I wish I was still drunk.

Great post, I dont have the heart to watch anymore football this year. If only the defence could have been servicable for 2 minutes.

Oh Well...
