OK, I will give Miles some credit for our team over the past 4 years

going through a "miss" period at QB has destroyed a few programs. for example, this problem basically has killed Miami and Florida State for about a decade. this problem is currently killing Texas
so, i will give Miles a lot of credit for our program not sinking due to our failure at QB recruiting/development from 2008-2001. this eventually happens to all programs, and LSU has withstood the problem very well. our worst year was a 5-loss season, and our best year involved an SEC championship
when your program goes through 4 years without a QB and basically the worst thing is only making one BCS bowl, you've done something else really well in that period
does miles have issues? yes, certainly on offense. hopefully he FINALLY changes and we can improve on that side of the ball (while keeping the other side elite) and we can take that next step. after Monday night, that's all we can hope for (but i hope even the biggest miles' fans realize he has serious flaws with our offensive philosophy)
but, it could be worse. just ask UGA, FSU, Miami, Texas, USC, OU, etc (who have all had losing seasons with QB issues)

I see you are slowly starting to work your way out of it the sting of the 9th. Wish some of my friends would, they are starting to be a real bore to be around.

Don't forget UT.

I agree with the overall point of this post, but I am troubled by a pattern that has nothing to do with QB "misses".
While we did not have a great QB on the roster last season, we had one clearly (in many observer's opinions) outplayed the starter during several games but was never allowed increased reps. This season, Miles was forced to start the same #2 QB because his starter displayed a tremendous lack of maturity and leadership. This QB played very well, but as soon as Miles could reinstate the previous starter, he did and he made it clear to everyone that eventually he would reclaim the starting role. When he was made the starter, our again became completely one-dimensional, and Miles refused to respond with any type of change.
The championship game debacle was not simply a single game in which the QB position was mishandled...it was mishandled for 3 yrs in a row.
A big time college coach has to make changes when they are needed. We don't really know if we had a serviceable QB on the roster because Miles did not run the experiment, despite having ample reason to and many opportunities.

tennessee? they won a title the year after they lose peyton, and their slide is due to UGA and USC becoming good again (UTenn relied heavily on cali and GA recruits to get elite talent). UTenn has a recruiting/talent issue

Very solid post. As a positiger pro Miles guy if we continue to run options etc with Mett and dont throw it deep then I completely agree that he has issues on offense and that something needs to change. We went through a dark period with qbs and made it through with the program still strong. Its time to open it back up.

this is not a JJ/JLee thread. both were horrible college QBs at worst and very limited college QBs at their best
and everyone should admit by now that miles has some serious philosophical issues with his handling of offense. i posted that in the OP

we had the best QB in CFB in 2006 and ran a conservative offense when we were in big games during the year quite often. it's all about that first game where miles may get a little scared

10 years and some programs don't have a bona fide QB? That's a failure in coaching and recruiting, you don't get a pass for that.

Ill agree on Auburn but who else? We lost to florida because of turnovers. UT we threw it a pretty good bit if I remember right
