Cordero's WHIP last year was 1.02. That is absolutely fantastic, especially when you consider that the previous three years he gave them 1.44, 1.33, 1.41. Madson's 1.15 is more than respectable.

For comparison's sake, John Axford's was 1.14 and Heath Bell's was 1.15. Neftali Feliz was at 1.16.


Also throw in the fact that Cordero has been losing mph off his fastball, and this is definitely the smarter move for the Reds.

I guess that 30+M deal the Phils offered Madson, before going to Papelbon, is looking really good right about now..

Not all Boras deals are so great after all..the man alienates many franchises..Phils and he have a history of not playing ball.
