Played worse competition, have a crappy defense, lost to Iowa State. Bama and LSU are in a league by themselves. Bottom line, OSU is closer to Arkansas in quality than it is LSU or Bama
OSU's schedule was inflated with the likes of Baylor and KSU, which are good but not great teams. The BCS isn't defined by body of work, and I imagine most people who vote do so for the best team, not the one who has the best body of work. You can look at the wins all you want, but look at the losses as well, Iowa State blows.
The BCS got it right. OSU has a phenom WR, and a QB who would be in his prime in the NFL, age wise. Nothing else.

Okie's schedule was better than Bama's. They have a crppy defense but a good offense. Okie is probably comparable to Ark, and Bama is probably much better, i agree with u. But in every other year teams are judged by their body of work. Not by eye tests or defensive stats. Which is a good thing bc lsu probably fails the eyeball test in 2007. Georgia and USC were both looking better.

Stanford and Okie are both very good and pretty evenly matched. Lsu probbly beats either by 10-20 pts, but who knows. It would e more entertaining though than another defensive struggle against a division rival. Third time in 14mos.

Iowa state isnt good but they arent Tulan either. Didnt they make a crappy bowl?
I'm pretty sure Bama is indeed the second best team and would defeat Okie. But there is no way to judge "best team" without looking at what the teams accomplished. The season has to matter. Otherwise lets just use recruiting rankings. Thats what happened in 2006. Most thought Mich was second best team according to the eyeball test. The eyeball test gave OhioSt no shot against Miami in 2002. the eyeball test wouldve left out lsu in 2007 bc UGA and USC both were looking better, but thankfully voters looked at lsu's wins--NOT losses--and the fact lsu won the SEC.
Fact is, if it were OK instead of Okie, Bama wouldve been left out. Bc in every other season, a one-loss Big12 champ gets in.

i dont think anyone gives those teams a chance against LSU. i think they are sending bama in to area 51 to try and pull one off. it wont happen though.

1. I think LSU will beat Bama on the 9th.
2. I think LSU would beat Stanford or OSU if they played.
3. I think LSU's season would look even better years from now if they won the NCG against OSU instead of Bama. That would have given them wins over three conference champions and potentially 3 BCS bowl winners (4 BCS bowl participants).

Most teams at least made a crappy bowl.

Evidently, the majority of people who follow college football for a living and vote on this stuff thought so as well.
Right, because of that preconceived notion of them "not being elite" or "not passing the eyeball test."

No, their defense is shitty. Very shitty.
Yeah, it is obvious that they couldn't stop a runny nose last night, but who can? Ha ha. I was meaning, though, that their defensive numbers are skewed a bit by the fact that they are out there so much of the game due to the speed at which their offense scores.

They don't look any worse than they have all year. This is just the best team they have faced.
They handled OU pretty well to end the season, and so far it looks as though most of their opponents that were in bowls have won so far. (Granted that Iowa State loss looks even worse now.)

the Big XII is doing pretty good in bowl games so far. Who did Alabama beat that was any better than the teams OSU beat? How many teams with winning records had Alabama beaten before bowl games?
Alabama had a better out of conference opponent (on paper), but how does that look now with Penn State losing to Houston?
I'm not saying OSU could beat LSU or 'Bama. They just got screwed in the media because they aren't perceived to be elite, and have just moved from the "kid table" of college football to the "adult table." They are a conference champion with one loss, and if they were the Oklahoma team from Norman with that resume' the would have been in the title game.

Ha ha...yeah, there are way too many bowl games these days. With thirty-five games, that means over half of the teams in FBS get invites. Pretty sad.

I came away with the opposite feeling, for these two teams do not offer the challenge, or opportunity, playing Alabama again does.
If LSU wins next Monday, there is nothing to talk about in the college football world, other than:
a) how does Les Miles do it?
b) so what playoff format does DIV-I college football go with?

Agreed! Great game last night. Here's the best one liner stat of all that led to Stanford's doom. Think Miles would have run/pass w this info? Just sayin.....
--------------------------------------------------
Fair enough. But the Cardinal averaged 4.9 yards per rush and 11.2 yards per pass attempt. And that decision to go away from Luck shifted the burden from the best Stanford player since John Elway to a young kicker who was not having the best of nights.

After watching the games last night, and with a playoff system in place, LSU and bama would still be playing for the NC. Them folks don't know nothing about defense.
