Anybody else seeing trends in bowl games

Just seems to me that the coaching, officiating, and execution on the field has been remarkably sloppy.
Every game has a superfluous amount of penalties, turnovers, questionable coaching, and poor officiating.
Also, total lack of attendance. Maybe it's just me, maybe just coincidence. I don't know, but I can't remember seeing things this bad during bowl season before. Could be I'm just paying more attention this year.

Have you seen the teams in these bowls?
That has something to do with the sloppyness. Most of these teams aren't on national tv until they play the bowl game.

Yeah, I guess it's hard to gauge, but the coaching decisions are probably the most obvious. Some of these guys are making multiple mistakes compounded upon themselves.
And, I've never seen a downed punt where the player's momentum carries him and the ball into the endzone not called a touchback.
The clock management of almost every game played thus far has been atrocious. Even in the same game by both sidelines!
I'm still trying to figure out how you go for 2 from an XP formation, with a holder that obviously can't run an option, with 52 seconds left in a game where both teams have scored 40+ points. A successful try doesn't even win the game. Only a failed one definitely loses it.

They don't give a shite. Any upperclassmen worth a damn is focusing on not getting hurt and getting to the pro-day/combines. They aren't in the normal routine of classes, practice, etc. They are not playing for much.
Also, you lose the guys for a few weeks before practice starts, some mentally never come back.

Shitty football tends to be played when you have a month off between games. One of the reasons bowls blow

Yeah, these last two responses are most likely the most true.
The majority of payouts is from TV revenue. Schools are losing money.
Taxpayers footing the bill in a lot of cases.
Playoffs are a necessity, if any semblance of a championship is the goal of these institutions. One big excuse you always hear is the travel for fans.
I think if the bowl games thus far are any indication, attendance is not required. As much as I enjoy college football, I can't bring myself to watch this game on TV now.
Every trend/complaint I had in the original post is on full display right now.
