Of course its tougher to beat a team twice. How much tougher, depends on the team. Its common sense. Its a 50/50 chance to flip a coin and land on heads once. Its a 1 in 4 chance to flip a coin and have it land on heads two times in a row.

Not when it's already landed on heads once. In your statistics example you ignored the fact that we already know the outcome of the first game. They are independent variables.
Of course all of that is 100% irrelevant anyway b/c a football game isn't a coin flip with 50/50 odds.
