Powell is starting for UF but has been a major disappointment. Surprises me a little.

The Orlando Sentinel has an article where they discussed Florida's 2010 class with an editor from philsteele.com. Here's what they said about Powell:

No player faced higher outside expectations than DE Ronald Powell, the top overall recruit in the nation. Although he improved toward the end of the 2010 season, Powell struggled at times in a hybrid end/linebacker position (called the Buck) and coaches have said they needed more production from him.

"I would say the expectations were for him to be a dominating player," said Pertner. "We just haven't seen it yet."

Here's what they said about some other highly rated 2010 U of F recruits:

quote:

Few other players have had as big of an impact as Trey Burton, a QB recruit who has played no fewer than five positions at Florida. The Jack-of-all-trades approach isn't likely to last next season, but Burton was one of the few positives in an 8-5 season last year and has been just as versatile this year.

He would be my No. 1 on the offensive side of the ball. Trey Burton was a guy that wasn't very highly rated," said Brandon Pertner, an assistant editor at PhilSteele.com. "He's been the biggest surprise so far coming out of the class."

Besides Burton, the class has several other starters with most on defense. S Matt Elam, DT Dominique Easley and DE Sharrif Floyd have been among the most productive in the class. On offense, RT Chaz Green became a starter after redshirting.

The Gators also had high hopes for RB Mack Brown and WR Quinton Dunbar. Brown has been stuck down the depth chart behind upperclassmen, while Dunbar lacked enough consistency to be a reliable deep threat this year.

Muschamp learned well under Saban as many players from the #1 or #2 2010 class have been processed:

quote:

A total of nine players in the class have transferred, including seven since Muschamp was hired. Most recently, S Josh Shaw and DE Lynden Trail left the Gators in late November. While the reasons have varied, the departures have affected Florida's depth. Safety Jonathan Dowling has been the only player kicked off the team, leaving in November 2010.

Interesting stuff.
