The method most used to sell a home has changed in recent years. A higher share of sellers are relying on the expertise of real estate agents and brokers to sell their home, rather than trying other methods.
From 1991 to 2011 the share of home sellers who used a real estate agent or broker to sell their home increased from 77 percent to 87 percent.
Over the same time period, the share of sellers who sold their home as a FSBO (For-Sale-By-Owner) decreased from 19 percent to 10 percent.
Sellers use real estate professionals to help them sell their home in a reasonable timeframe, to market their home to potential buyers, and to price the home competitively.

I used to closely follow the public pronouncements of Lawrence Yun. Good times.

I don't know about that, but man, he was truly willing to say anything regardless of the evidence. He as about like Baghdad Bob.
Here's a blog that used to only follow him.

Well he is a paid lobbiest/economist for the real estate industry so it is his job to dress up the facts and find any morsel of good news out of tracking statistics.
That being said, that blog is
Too bad it stopped in 2009....

BUMP
Jersey, the timing could not have been better. Take a look at this link about NAR having to revise YEARS of home sales statistics. I wonder if your linked blog will fire back up as a result?

One of the most crucial and closely watched measures of the housing market is the existing home sales number, which is published monthly by the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
This figure, which is revised modestly each month, is about to get the mother of all revisions.
Apparently, the NAR mistakenly included some new homes sales figures and double counted some of the existing home sales figures.
This means that the health of the housing market for the last five years has actually been weaker than we thought.

This comes as a surprise to no one who actually cares about such things outside of the NAR and realtors probably.

I realize this is localized anecdotal observation but several houses near me in the Highland Road area south of LSU initially went up FSBO.
After a couple of months of not selling they switched to a realtor. At least one of them sold within a few weeks after that.
These are houses in the $750,000+ range.

This story is running rampant all over the news...I am very interested to see what the revised numbers look like.
It also begs the question, could this be on purpose as an election year tactic? Maybe?

Is the NAR openly Dem/Republican? I didn't even know that. If so they're firmly past zero credibility and into negative credibility. Honestly though, that's probably been the case for years (for me).

no, definitely not. in fact, they make it a point to always support candidates who support the "Realtor Party" which of course means those who fall in line with NAR positions on housing and finance topics
BUT, the timing on this is still a little weird to me. I cannot seem to find where Yun was "called out" or something similar recently which would make NAR have to re-publish stats

Frankly, it's surprising to me that someone wasn't on top of this sooner. There's so many wonky blogs now digging around in the data.
