Who was the last team to finish the season with a bowl loss and still win the AP National Title?

Who cares but it will probably happen again in 2011 for Bama.

F'n gumps are the only team in the history of history talented enough to find a way to lose thier way to victory.

Crown em now, imo.

Probably some Bama team that didn't deserve the recognition. Did Home and Gardening Magazine give them the titel?

I'm sure the bowl loss was a "quality loss."

Arkansas won it in '66 before we kicked the shite out of them in the Cotton Bowl, I believe. And no, I did not just look that up.

Bowls then were not part of the regular season and did not count towards final standings. Just a reward for players and coaches. So after winning the National championship in 1973 Bama then went on to lose to Notre Dame in what was basically an exhibition game. Roll Tide

After 1964, the AP Poll decided to wait until after the bowl season to vote on the national champion, because Alabama lost to Texas in the 1965 Orange Bowl....

Great year for both teams. I do believe you will see why LSU is the best team from top to bottom in 2011.
