Completely different. USC never beat the #1 or #2 that year. If LSU loses, the #1 and #2 teams will have the same number of losses and will be 1-1 against each other. If there is ever an appropriate time for a split champion, that would be the case. USC didn't even qualify for the championship game in 2003. Sure there are some similarities, but still a different situation for the most part. LSU's schedule alone sets them apart too with all the top 5 wins they had this season. Not to mention, LSU will have more wins than any team in the country at the end of the year regardless of the outcome of the BCS CG.
