Yes.

BCS and the bowls and the network are all best-served by a game with popular appeal, since that means $$$.

I've felt this way to. All the media push is over which team stands the best chance of beating LSU?

Sorry, but AL vs. LSU is a regional matchup and that does not have popular appeal. The ratings will be high in the Southeast, and very low across the rest of the US.

Regular season game was 18 million homes. Near number for BCS championship games. Largest CBS regular season games in years. Game of the Century II--after month of ESPN hype and TD debate will be huge.

That game was on CBS, not cable tv ESPN. Also, this is a rematch of a game that people already watched. And, the first game was a very rare 1. vs. 2. regular season matchup. I think the ratings for this one might be among the lowest in BCS championship history.

+1

Think about it, what's going to attract more viewers:

A defensive game that features two teams from the same division in the same conference who have already played once as 1 vs 2.

or

A game featuring a conference champion with one of the most high powered offenses in the country against another conference champ with one of the toughest defenses in the country.

I agree the OSU matchup would attract a large audience, but Bama and LSU will still be 1 v 2 and Americans will watch that too. Neither of us will ever know the comparison because only one of these match ups will be played in NOLA for the championship. I seriously do not believe GOTC II will be a ratings bust.

He did say it was the largest CBS regular season game in years, so I'm not sure what your point is.

ESPN did have a financial stake in it though, which is why they were hyping it.

At any rate, it got massive airtime nationwide, not just in the South.
