Question: How did you feel about the Les Miles hire from Ok. State?

Aside from the fact that a lot of you were probably down about Saban--a coach you knew was a gamer--deucing for a new game... I'm curious as to how you felt when you heard Les Miles was hired as the next coach?
He didn't have an overly impressive resume to that point, but he did have a reputation of beating OU i.e., winning big games. But did you think the hire was too risky? Did you expect that he would win like he did straight out of the shoot, simply because Saban left a really talented team in tact?
Miles is the king now...but just trying to see how you saw him when he was coming into the league from the B12, which is about as piss poor as you can find of a league in terms of defense(even back then).
Who do you think TAMU should hire as their coach?
The candidates right now are rumored to be doing interviews in the next few days are Smart, Sumlin, Strong, and Fedora. What do you think of them...potential to win in the west?

Congratulations on another SEC championship by the way

I sure hope Les works out

I was pretty happy with it at the time. He seemed to be winning regularly at a place that didn't have a lot of that.
To be honest, I wanted his head after the Ole Miss clock debacle, but I'm glad he's our coach.

I had no idea who the frick he was honestly and I was worried that this job was way too big for him.

See that's what I'm trying to figure out myself right now....what he hell do I think about some of these guys who just put up crap numbers in other conferences, but show real potential in a few key areas.
Since we've made the move to the SEC West, we've been getting a lot of love from the coaches interested in applying for the job. But most are looking for an up and coming guy...which I completely agree....just have no idea how the fek to choose one

Strong. He is the man for the job.
Smart is a close second.

He's the leader right now. Strong wants to come here very badly is what I have been told.
There is a really strong push for Strong as HC and Chad Morris as OC.

I know Saban gets a lot of love for miles first championship with LSU. How much credit does miles get for the building of osu. Ei. Zook vs Meyers. Willingham vs Weiss.

Initially, I felt it was a very weak hire after losing a MNC coach in Saban.
He changed my mind quickly and I've never understood the heat he took. Plenty of coaches have made the exact same clock mistakes without taking as much heat.
I've actually never in my life seen someone take as much heat for WINNING a game as Les Miles has taken.
He took more heat than Dooley for the TN debacle even though Dooley's mistake cost TN the game.
The Auburn game is even more perplexing. LSU had the play called with 20 seconds to go. It was Flynn who took a month to snap the ball and get the play off. Oh and they won, yet even this year idiots bring that play up as a negative.
I love the guy. He changed my mind immediately and the way he handled 2007 and his speeches before and after the SEC Championship will stick with me forever.

I heard Miles was hired, when I was driving back from the Cap One Bowl. I didn't know shite about him, but when I listed to WWL talk bout his resume and thought about how well LSU (Skip) handled the process I had faith.
Smart- He could be good, but Saban's assist haven't done that well. Williams was a bust at Mich State, Dooley blows, Jimbo & Muschamp's teams (Fla State & Florida) aren't ranked in the BCS top 25.
Strong- he just signed a 7 year extenstion @ 2.3 million per year. How is A&M going to buy out Sherman & the Big 12 and give him more than what he is getting?
Fedora- he lost to a team that Tulane beat on the road 49-10. He would be a lost ball in high weeds in the SEC West.

Hardly none which I call bullshite.
Here's how it went down: Miles did build OSU, and did get better recruits (as hard as it was to get people to go to that hellhole). Then, after Miles left and Gundy was promoted, Gundy thought he was hot chit and didn't hire an OC....that failed miserably.
And you combine that with a long string of injuries and bad luck, and Gundy just failed all around.
It wasn't until his daddy T-Boone Pickens bailed him out with bags of cash, and he wised up to hire an OC that he was able to start getting 9 win seasons or better. Ever since then, however, he's been pretty competitive in the conference.
But OSU would lose to UGA. I'd put a lot on that...they're just not that great of a team this year.

Yes, that's the general consensus among TAMU people as well.

Have no idea. But the fact is there are too many people involved not to have thought this through already...lots of donors stepping up in light of the fact that we are about 20 million a year in revenue behind where we need to be. Going to be a lot of changes at TAMU in the next few years to adjust.
But I will say that Strong coached at TAMU way back in the day, and he has been reported to call TAMU his "destination job." He has loved the place since he left and has always hoped of coming back as the HC, from what I understand. So the general consensus is that we can get him for 2.__ (two something) and go from there.
The athletic department is broke, but the donors will bail us out when the time comes to make a decision. They're some stingy old prigs but they are an infinite money train when it comes time to remedy our terrible coaching decisions

Saban was an unknown when LSU hired him. Thanks to DiNardo for getting LSU back on track and recruiting to help Saban become what he did at LSU. Miles was a better hire than Saban was when Saban was hired.........Saban left LSU with very few offensive linemen.....
