Need ideas of a practical gift for somebody who likes to cook. My brother likes to cook a bunch of suppers for his friends. He is single and always has people coming over to eat. I am looking to spend around $50. I am thinking about buying a boning or filet knife. Any other ideas. TIA

Fondue set
Raclette Set
Slow cooker
All great options for someone that likes to entertain (and all on my list for x-mas).
eta: particularly fondue sets are good for that price range
$40-50 range

Non-stick roasting pan
Greatest purchase I have ever made. Good for turkeys and just roasting vegetables. It's non-stick so it's very easy to clean.

A single man has no need for a fondue set. If he does he's having Barney Frank over for dinner.
Go to Ducotes on Florida Street and load him up with good commercial stuff, cutting boards, stainless spoons, wood spoons, long and short tongs, meat thermometer, containers, pepper mill, salt box, pizza stone, sheet pans, paring knife etc..
Or go to Sir La Table and get serving platters, small bowls, cheese knives, martini glasses.
Both have some good deals. For fifty bucks at ducotes you can load him up with a ton of good small stuff.

This. Every man needs some good cast irons. At least a Big Dutch oven and a cornbread pan

One of the best gifts I ever got was an assortment of extra virgin olive oils, the expensive ones that I wouldn't normally buy for myself. Add a bottle of good aged balsamic vinegar and you're in business. If you're in Baton Rouge, check with Fresinas in the Drusilla Shopping Center.

If he's a cook, he probably has all the utensils he needs and if he's like me he doesn't want other people picking out kitchen gadgets for him.
