Quote from an interview before the 2003 SECCG
"I heard that, and I do not really spend a lot of time on this stuff so I have no idea about it, but I heard that if we have the opportunity to play in the championship game (SEC Championship Game) and we play the team that we beat before that we would not get the same quality points for that. I think you should get more. It is hard to beat the same team twice and there are other teams that are ranked that do not even have to play because their conference does not have a conference championship game. When we beat Tennessee they were No. 2, they were going to go play in the national championship game. If they were in a conference where they didn't have to play a game they would not have had an opportunity to lose. If they have an opportunity to lose then they ought to have an opportunity to gain by having success."

He's not complaining about having to play them again, but how the quality points worked in the BCS formula back then. It's no longer part of the BCS.

Didn't they say this about the Dawgs not to long ago?

His comments were in the context of the system in 2003 - which had a "quality points" component. He was just saying LSU should get super-extra quality points for beating Georgia again.
I don't really see this as applicable to the current scenario.

That was before the SEC won 5 straight.

Related to this conversation....I cannot seem to find the quote but I also saw somewhere in 2003 where Saban also commented that he didnt believe someone who did not win their conference should be allowed to play for the NC
or something to that effect
or something to that effect

Actually is does apply to this years scenario with these words.

His comments about Tennessee is more what i was aiming at

i agree that not playing in the sec championship game allows a team to escape a loss but the flip side of the coin is that it has also helped propel sec teams in the nc game with the win (see us in 2007--i don't think we make it if we don't get those bcs points from beating tenn).

Not really. What "more" do you think LSU should get? They are #1 and headed into the title game without even having to win the SEC title.

No he did not. You cannot find it because it doesn't exist.

No it doesn't. You guys don't understand how the BCS formula worked back then. There was a quality points component that was a function of the ranking of a team. I think it was based on top 10 that year. If you beat a top ten team you got a bonus. But ranking is a function of losses and if you play a team twice and beat them twice, you will get few points if any at all. It was an abomination that needed to go away and it did after that year.
