LHSAA Highlight Games of the Week - 11/18
Posted on 11/14/11 at 6:31 pm
Posted on 11/14/11 at 6:31 pm
The Regional round has 8 games in each class. So, there are going to be a bunch of good matchups: 8/9, 5/12, 7/10, 6/11, and the occasional Cinderella. I know most people are going to have a favorite team, and I do not intend to hurt someone's feelings if I don't pick your #1 vs #16 game. I'll try to highlight a game that on paper looks like a really good matchup.
Feel free to comment on any game or make preditions.
------------
5A - 7 Carencro vs 10 Ouachita
- Carencro - 18pt loss to Acadiana on the road.
- Ouachita - 5pt loss to Neville, 3pt loss to WM.
Both teams can score with the best of them.
------------
4A - 9 StAug @ 8 McD 35
There's already a thread on this.
Others: 11 OPWalker/ 6 Teurlings, 7 Karr/ 10 STbone
------------
3A - 15 Patterson @ 2 St.Charles
- Patterson's average win 51-8!
- St Charles' average win 48-3!
Battle of the undefeated teams!
3A - 11 Parkview @ 6 Notre Dame
Sorry. I couldn't pick just one. This is another great one in the making.
Both teams have played higher class opponents: five 5A teams and three 4A teams. Winning a few and losing a few.
But when playing 3A teams, most games haven't been close.
Others: Jennings/Eunice (rematch), Livonia/McMain
------------
2A - 7 Episcopal vs 10 Loreauville
- Episcopal - 4pt loss to ULab.
- Loreauville - 2 losses by a combined 5 points. (C.Catholic, Catholic (NI))
This could end up being a score fest as both teams are averaging around 39 points per game.
Others: Riverside/ULab, Welsh/CNI
------------
1A - There's really 4 close games in 1A. It's hard to tell which ones are going to be the best b/c they've all blown out the competition.
11 StJ @ 6 WSJ (rematch)
7 Kentwood vs 10 Westminster
5 StMartin vs 12 Block
9 C.Catholic @ 8 Elton
------------
Honorable mentions: Any game that I didn't pick that you'd rather I had picked.

Ruston @ Central. Look forward to watching the wildcats continue the Cinderella run.

Amazingly, I had Central beating St.Paul's in my bracket. It's only happened once in the last 10 years, but the games have been so close between the two teams recently that I felt Central would have the emotional edge.
It's going to be one tough game after another for Central:
Regional: 16 Ruston
Quarters: 8 Parkway / 9 Mandeville
Semis: 5 WM / 13 Barbe
Finals: 3 Byrd / 11 Acadiana / 7 Carencro / 10 Ouachita / 2 Jesuit

I think ND's worst two losses came to Breaux Bridge & CHSNI. CHSNI and Evangel will be meeting next week.

Salmen @ Breaux Bridge
Breaux Bridge is 0-2 vs. Salmen in recent history and both of those contests were in BB. Let's hope that changes!

Central hasn't played the schedule Ruston has. The Bearcats have been battled tested this season, and it will show. Central's combined record is 46-53 compared to Ruston's 65-34 (regular season).

Difference is we have Gary Triplett.

You have to get the ball in his hands to be effective. Central didn't start doing this on a consistent basis until the last 5 games. Against St. Paul's, he didn't touch the ball in the 3rd quarter and still had 157 yards receiving and 27 yards rushing.
Once he starts getting the ball, it opens it up for Evans and Courville on the read option.

Also got the game sealing INT.
Dotson told him before the play "make something happen" and he did

quote:BB sure looks strong this year. Unless there is a particular scheme advantage, I don't see Salmen being able to stop BB from scoring.
Salmen @ Breaux Bridge
quote:They've had a pretty good body of work.
ND's worst two losses
ND lost to:
4A - #4 Breaux Bridge by 16
4A - #17 St. Louis by 3
2A - #4 Catholic NI by 9
--- All tough losses to quality opponents.
They've also had a few quality wins:
4A - #6 Teurlings by 6
3A - #9 Jennings by 4
On the other hand. Parkview's only losses were to 5A teams.
5A - #9 Mandeville by 3
5A - #20 Scotlandville by 23
5A - #18 East St John by 12
Both have been playing at a very high level. It'll should be a very good game.
quote:This game is a wild card. Brother Martin was a common opponent and both teams won convincingly (ESJ.35-3 & 41-3). As was Hahnville (ESJ.27-21 & 28-13). Average advantage of 7.5pts for Jesuit.
Jesuit @ East St. John
They seem to be evenly matched. Considering ESJ is at home, Jesuit might have a slight edge, like by a FG. Turnovers will be HUGE in this game.
