If Madden is right that Sandusky was a "poorly kept secret" around CFB

The damage won't stop at Penn State, at least in terms of negative perception. I asked the other day whether this might bring down the money machine that has become college sports. Not many people wanted to take a swing at the question, but I still think it's a possibility.

I can see reasons for Penn State keeping it quiet, but I see no reason why another school would.

Not that another school would, but as has been said, coaching is a very tight fraternity. These guys all know each other. If the PSU staff knew, did other coaches get wind of the rumors? If they did and didn't say anything...
No legal responsibility, but it doesn't look good morally.

If Paterno and others deliberately swept Sandusky's actions under the rug to protect the football program from a scandal, then, IMHO, it is a college football issue.

I don't think child molestation is a hot topic among football coaches.

You and I both know that grown men can be as bad as women in regards to the latest news & hot topics around work. It's asinine to think that this didn't leak out, and was talked about.

I don't know if it was openly discussed. None of us do. But I can see another coach calling Paterno asking, Hey we're thinking about hiring Sandusky. He in good standing? And Joe Pa saying, I can't discuss why he left but my advice is look elsewhere. I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole. Word of that would travel around very fast.

McQueary apparently wasn't the only one to witness stuff. A wrestling coach at a local school says he saw Sandusky "inappropriately touching" a student at the school (where Sandusky "volunteered" to help the football program). Also, the school would let boys leave the school with Sandusky without any permission from home and without notifying parents that it had happened. I don't know about Baton Rouge, but if that happened, even once, at the school my daughters attended, the administrator responsible for not making the notification, and not getting the permission slip, would be history, and the parents would know about it for sure. Seems like Sandusky had free rein around State College.

really? I could see him making up a story like "Sandusky doesn't wanna coach anymore due to _______ (health issues/ family issues/ etc", but not "nah, he's accused of molesting kids". I think he'd cover for Sandusky, not put him out there.
