If a prosecutor gets caught in a crime this serious, that's pretty much all they can do. Their life is essentially over.

Actually, the Chairman of the BOT is about to get ousted. From the article he's "the former Penn State treasurer and vice president for finance and operations." Basically an administration insider, unlike many of the Trustees.
Apparently he is close to Spanier, Curley, and Schultz and has known about the investigation and allegations for a while; however, he failed to inform approximately 2/3rds of the BOT about the impending indictment. In fact, most of the BOT didn't learn about the allegations until this weekend when it was made public. This is the reason for the early confusion and the failure to react as quickly as a lot of people wanted.
