exactly because if you watch Faulk, he goes out on the outside backer as if to attempt a block at him, all the while he is getting out in position to turn back and seal off pursuit of the scraping linebacker, although he beautifully got the lineman at the same time. This was great coaching and preparation from huddle to whistle on this play.

ETA: Therefore, it could not be quick hitting, to give him time to get out there, while keeping the LB from getting too wide too soon.
