I accidentally bumped my xbox while a game was in and it got scratched. It's currently unplayable. I'm going to try to go to some local video stores to see if they have the machine that restores it, but has anyone had any luck with other methods?
TIA

No they don't. They ship them off to get cleaned by a professional buffing machine.

Have you actually tried toothpaste and had it work? I've also heard that it can make things worse, and a lot of people on the net say it doesn't work.

I'm currently in France so I might have to ask around to try to find one of those professional buffing machines...

I've had it work on a music CD, lucky enough to never have to try it on a game. I was actually going to try it on a free copy of RE:5 I was given due to the large number of scratches but never got around to it and won't be able to until I'm home in a week or so.

walmarks used to sell something called the DVD doctor. Worked really well.

also, if you use a small dab of toothpaste, rub it over the surface of the in a circular motion, then clean off with a little water and toilet paper, it does pretty much the same thing. Toothpaste is abrasive, and helps fills in the scratch on the CD.

I have 3 kids under 4 years old, and they think DVD's are toys. This is a successful method, and field tested.

Get your friends game, burn it to your hard drive, and use your disc. It'll just read your disc to see if you've got the game, and pull the game play from your hard drive.

I think toothpaste works.

I used it on a DVD one time.
