Amazing Study of Contrasts - Miles/Saban philosophies

It's been mentioned ad nasueum on these boards about the differences between Miles and Saban and their coaching philosophies. While both are extremely successful, Miles' teams always appear to be having more fun, which allows them to play looser. Saban is such a hard arse, that his players sometimes seem to play tight and are afraid of making mistakes. Granted they are a well-oiled fundamentally sound machine, but never seem to be totally enjoying themselves.
I think the magnitude of the next 2 weeks is going to cause Saban much more stress. While he's busy dictating to the media trying to downplay the game and excitement, Miles is reveling in the moment. I did notice in the past in big games while at LSU that Saban appeared to get really conservative and the teams sometimes came out very tight (At Ole Miss for SEC West Championship comes to mind)
Because Miles has proven so successful with handling distractions and rolling with the punches this season, I'm going to give the edge to LSU. I think Bama tightens up in this game (including their coaching staff becoming overly conservative).
I can tell you one thing....LSU will be having much more fun these next 2 weeks enjoying the moment, and I think that translates to the field on Nov. 5.
LSU 20
Bama 13

The teams are virtually indistinguishable, Spencer Ware "not in the same class as Richardson" notwithstanding. Bama's only significant edge is at linebacker. LSU's special teams, particularly the punt team is LSU's only significant advantage. LSU's DL is probably a little better and much deeper. Ditto for the Secondary. The OLines are a push. I think we have more guys who can make plays at receiver, but their starters are playing well enough to make this a push.
QBs are a push, except that we have 2. They have a slight edge at RB, and we have a slight edge at FB. TR and Lacy are an outstanding tandem. The fact that we have 5 guys who can play tailback will probably not factor in the outcome - but I believe we have more depth at RB.
So we come to the dreaded intangibles. Right now, today, as we sit here on October 24th, 2011 - LSU has the edge in intangibles. We'll see if that's enough.

You forgot to add in the home field (officiating) advantage.

interior DL and OL also. the LB advantage is huge

our kickoffs may have an even higher advantage
but other than ST, our biggest edge is being able to pass it deep. AJ has sucked dick at throwing it deep while lee has been hitting RR deep a good bit lately (and JJ even hit one saturday)

Assumptive much?
Good points though.

I just hope everyone stays out of trouble. That is the only way we can beat ourselves.

And your right on the deep balls; it feels like forever since weve seen a receiver hit perfectly in stride on a pass longer than 15 yards but these last 4 long TD passes to RR (UF & AU) have been picture perfect.

sabans an a-hole miles isnt.
You know what bama's gonna do, run the ball.
LSU between fake punts, delay blitzes, changing QB's running, going deep... wide outs taking out punt returners... You never know whats coming ...
LSU 38
Bama 14

We have a very multiple offense. So in the playcalling and offense in general i give the edge to lsu
We can finally run screens effectively.

What scares me: Richardson running behind that mammoth OL.
Our Advantage: IMO, our passing game. I think Lee will be able to spread it around to our more talented WRs. RR, ODB, RS, and DP are the difference. I think our DBs and pass rush can shut down their passing game.

Copeland vs Upshaw should be epic

we do have an edge in turnover margins:
2. LSU--1.88
19. Alabama--.75
but you're right FTL, saban's a-hole will be a tad too tight the next couple weeks hopefully translating into teeth into the curb stomping on the field by LSU.

saban-coached teams traditionally aren't good after a break. his teams are creatures of habit and when that's broken they often, at least, start off slowly. i have no idea why bama scheduled a bye before LSU for this reason

This is a solid post. Saban is a douche who will never enjoy or let others around him enjoy things. I like CLM approach of relishing the moment and to let his players enjoy the process.

If Tenn can contain TR then LSU can. I like our chances. Ftr, our D Line aren't small players. Actually LSU D Line owned essentially the same o line last year.

you know, our OL and DL are not a bunch of jr high players out there...geez, you would think that by all of this talk Bama is the reincarnation of the 85 Bears with Peyton Manning handing off to Walter Payton...

qb is not a push. give me a break bama's qb is not that good. the big difference in the game will be our SPEED!!!!!!

we will run on them and pass. i see LSU 35 ala 10

One thing I know for certain..Little Nicky is game planning to shut that down. It's gonna be Beckham's time to shine.
