Cam Newton eligibility issue

For the people who are upset that Cam remained eligible, what other option did they have considering the potential for abuse if they ruled that he was ineligible at AU due to what happened at MSU?
What would stop the school that misses out on a top ranked recruit to their rival from saying that the recruit asked for money?
Take Auburn and Alabama for instance. those two schools go head to head for a lot of the same players. If Cam was ineligible at AU because of something that happened at MSU, what would stop Auburn from coming forward the day after signing day and saying that all of the recruits that AU wanted but Alabama signed had asked for money from AU while on a visit?
The Alabama coaches would say that they were not approached but because AU said they were dirty, then should the kid automatically be ineligible?

I think most people assumed he'd be ruled ineligible for Auburn offering a similar amount of money, not for MSU offering it.

Its just for discussion. Im curious how others think the rule should have been interpreted.
What would stop Auburn (or any school) telling all the recruits that they want to either sign with Auburn or we will say you asked for money?

Because its not true!
Miss. State didn't lie, his father asked for money.
I'm not saying Auburn did anything wrong, saying Newton's father did.
