If Tulane started paying players for pay like SMU in the 80s then they would have a shot.

They wouldn't have to go that far.

If they simply had athletic-friendly majors for the last 20 years, they would "have a shot."

Their President crows about the "Tulane Model" but nobody cares, nobody is listening, and conference expansion is leaving Tulane back at the starting line.

I kige this. Tulane could dominate CUSA just by picking up LSU's in-state leftovers each recruiting season.

The lack of an OCS and the small size of Fogelman don't really matter. The Superdome and New Orleans Arena are much better selling points for the Big XII or whoever, and a new Tulane Stadium wouldn't be anywhere near as much of an asset.

Those facilities and the recruiting pipeline to south Louisiana are the two things that would make Tulane valuable if the Bevo Conference looks to expand. In that case, the question becomes not whether Tulane is good but whether Tulane is better than the alternatives.

BYU opted out. They don't want Boise. New Mexico and New Mexico State offer less than Tulane, across the board. They don't want any more Texas schools. So it comes down to Tulane vs. Memphis, UL, Cincy, San Diego State, and West Virginia. None of which are must haves or they would already have gotten an invite.
