I think the last drives vs. Oregon and WVU are skewing the stats a bit.
They definitely do. I'm thinking about doing some garbage time investigating, to see how much LSU has given up and Bama as well.

I kinda can't wait for Copeland to go all screaming banshee through the line to hit Upshaw.

Bama has played a Jr. High schedule, while we've had to beat several top 25 teams, including Oregon with the most explosive offense in college football. How the hell can you compare stats and get a true picture. Only November 5th is going to settle this debate.

Oh yay! Another LSU v. Bama thread
Yeah, we probably shouldn't talk about the most notable game remaining on our schedule, I'd agree.

Phelon Jones transferred because he could not crack the 2-deep at LSU. He gets PT at Bama.
No ill-will against him personally, but he's my justification to say that LSU's D is better.

That works both ways?
"Of course LSU's stats won't look as good, they had to defend West Virginia and Oregon, not North Texas and Kent State."
You can say that all you want, but I'm thinking:
1. Oregon is playing much better now than when we played them
2. Arkansas will be a tougher offense matchup than anyone we have played thus far - advantage Bama

Watching those 2 collide will make me thankful I never played CFB

LSU has created more turnovers and plays for loss.
Alabama has a significant advantage in yardage and points.
This just answered the question better than me in the other thread about 03,07,11 defenses compared.
Our D in 03, to me, was more like Bama this year, methodical and shut-down. While, thanks to your stats for proof, our Defense this year is mean and flashy creating tackles for loss, sacks, turnovers.
I'll take em both. Gonna be two good defenses in Tuscaloosa FOR SURE. Gonna need The General and Jefferson both to get some points on the board.

What? Get outta here with that nonsense. Penn State is like 5-1 right now right? Arkansas is in the top 10, and BAMA blew out a healthy Florida coming into the game IN THE SWAMP

They get more pressure and push with their front four. Also when they bring a LB he is the same size as most DE's. LSU hasn't pressured QB's much since the WV game. No pressure on Uk or UF QB's. One would think we would have gone after a freshmen QB playing in TS.
Yet, we still have more sacks than them.
Not sure on hurries/hits though, because this site doesn't track them.

Yeah, no question these are both great defenses.
Honestly our advantage this game will be, and I never thought I'd say this in a million years, is our advantage at QB (referring to both guys).

The DLs are almost a wash. LSU has a little more depth. LSU's DLine is faster while Alabama's is better at cramming against the run.
Alabama has a big advantage at linebacker. They have the best LBers in the nation while this is LSU's one "weakness." The one positive is that the most glaring weakness is LSU's ability to cover WRs from the LB position (here is looking at you, Hatcher), but Alabama doesn't have a very dynamic passing game.
LSU has a slight advantage at cornerback, even with Dre Kirkpatrick at Alabama. We have the best cover corners I've seen since 2003.
Alabama as the advantage at Safety although, again, the advantage is slight.
While I think from a technical standpoint Alabama has the better defense due to the LB position, I think LSU has the greater wildcard in Mathieu.

You are definitely looking at this with Bama tinted glasses.

NO DOUBT. Feels weird saying that but Bama's QB ain't impressing anyone. I'm betting JJ will find some hard running yards with a surprise pass here or there(i wouldn't be surprised to watch one of these go a LONG way) and Lee will get tougher conventional passing yards.

Of course Bama's opponents will have less yards per game than LSU's, because they played BAMA who is giving up less yards per game than LSU.
This isn't week 2. The opponents have all had at least 4 other opponents.

All the stats mean jack shite...on nov.5 the team that plays the hardest, most physical, and makes the fewest mistakes will win. I think you can throw stats out the window for this one. It's who wants it more. I like our team in this one.

No i'm not. See the LSU after my name? I'm just looking at this objectively without the purple and gold glasses. As a team LSU = ALA
Their defense is slightly better at LB and our offense is slightly better at QB. We have a GREAT secondary but so does Bama. We have a great front but so does Bama.
The key to the game, imo, is Bama's QB playing a defense like ours for the first time vs. Lee playing a Bama type defense for at least the third time.

Haha. We love the Honey Badger but let's make no mistake. That 03 Defense was steady and well coached. Having Jack Hunt on the field as a player/extra coach helped put a lot of future NFLers in position to stop damned near EVERYone short of their averages that year.
