Anyone else have a problem with this JJ quote tonight? Miles has stated numerous times that Lee is the starter. Why would JJ come out and say he wants to be the starter to the media? Obviously any QB wants to be the starter but you don't say it to the media in this situation. Last year after Lee bailed JJ out and won the UT and Florida games Lee NEVER said he wanted to be the starter or anything about him starting. He said PC stuff like " I just want to help the team win" etc. Shouldn't JJ have just said something like that?

No being a starter should be the goal of every college football player who isn't starting. Also the question could have been "do you still want to be the starter".

Yep, I'd rather a player say, "meh, you know what, I'm ok with not playing a whole lot. I'm gonna stop practicing so hard."

I'd like to see some context to that quote, he's said something that got relayed via Tweet before that didn't come off the way he realy said it.

that said...

quote:

Shouldn't JJ have just said something like that?

Jordan's rarely struck me as being really media savvy. not a big deal IMO.

if he responds the opposite you would be critical of him not wanting to be the starter....

thats not something you come out and say in the middle of a national championship season

you say exactly what it says in the PC handbook, "i'll do what it takes to help the team win." period.

What was he supposed to say, 'Les, please kick me off the team'?

So you think in a similar situation your response would be something along the lines of: "I'm just happy to be a glorified fan, with awesome seats to the Jarret Lee show?"

I will sum your subject matter and response into 1 simple word: CHARACTER. If you want a 2nd one call it: CLASS. It's an acquired trait.

Since Jefferson has yet to be 2nd place in anything he does not know how to respond/act. Jarrett Lee has been humbled ever since his 'throw him to the wolves' freshman season.

Jefferson will respond better when he realizes that he is now 2nd place. Life has a way of humbling everyone - even it is well into their senior season of eligibility in college.

You want Jefferson competing for the starting job. It pushes our qb's harder. I have no problem with it.

His goals and quotes should be stricly about the team. He needs a PR guy. Now, on the other hand, he wants to go 6-6 passing as a backup and run for 65 yards on 5 carries to impress coach Miles so he can maybe sneak into the starting position. If Miles has taught us anything over his 6.5 years at the helm, it is that he sticks with his guns. His gun right now is JL.

Translation: "I'm fine being the back-up"

To see how him and Lee still get along, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this quote. If he becomes the better QB, you play him. He's in his final year, of course he wants to be out on the field more than anything right now

Quit being a dumbass. We obviously see where you stand with your high school cheerleader-esque sig pic.

Your opinion really doesn't matter since you are obviously a Lee homer

I know if I was the backup I would be fighting every day to be the starter.
