The Tiger fan in me wants to say yes, and even more so because I think Shepard is a great guy and a great ambassador for the university, despite the "compliance issues" of this past summer. But we're now roughly halfway through his junior year, and he has yet to really make a mark as a WR. He's definitely got elite speed, but will his size, hands and route running ability turn off some NFL teams? I keep waiting for him to have some dominant games...but will he?

he needs to be productive as a tiger before you can get an answer.

So he's small, can't catch, and can't run routes? He'll make a great reciever in the NFL.

Just messing with you.

1 year highest ypc on the team as a true freshman with every defense knowing what he was doing "8 in the box". He wasn't a WR his first year. 2nd year was first year as a WR ever, and was just so so with an even worse QB. Now his 2nd year as a WR and he has only played 1 game. Made 1 great catch like his performances in practice and Spring Game and then had 3 incompletes that I believe only one was close enough for him to try and make a play on it. So the jury is still out on it. Let's wait and see, but I do feel he will make an great impact on our offense later this year and next. Besides watch and see how many times he's used as a decoy.

So far Russell Shepard has been one of the most squandered talents LSU has ever seen. Can't be good for recruiting imo.

Or he just isn't as good as he was touted to be.

AGREED highes YPC as true freshman with everyone wanting him to get more carries/playing time.

I think anyone can be successful in the NFL that isn't successful at the college level. Does that happen a lot ? No. The nfl is a much different game than college as you know I'm sure. I am sure some nfl teams will give him all the consideration he can get if his physical tools are what we think. I know he had worked hard this offseason on his hands reportedly, and he made one hell of a catch against West Va last week. If he works hard, I think good things inevitably will happen for Shep.

He is similar to Lance Moore in stature only....his production on the field thus far will not get him drafted to the NFL.

He has potential as a slot WR but he hasn't ever had a QB who could help him out. Hopefully he gets better this year and shines as a senior. Beckham looks more talented and natural at the position already though.

Of course he's not. But that isn't on Shep, that's on the tards who furiously fap over 17-year-olds and bestow upon them crowns in which they are not ready to receive (or the givers qualified to give).

Shep will be a huge part of our offense if we are to win the SEC and/or the NC. He can do so many things and add so much. He doesn't have to live up to his ridiculously unachievable expectations to not be a "bust." He's a very good college football player and will show it the final 10 games of the season.

Why is this a question when he has only played one game this season?

Bang your head all you want, but he's played more than one game for his career at the WR position. And now he's got about a season and a half left to define his career here. I'm rooting for him as much as anyone, but the question is legit.
