How would you feel about South Florida?

It's been said Florida won't let Florida State in the SEC and has the votes to veto. If that's the case, would they have the same hang ups about South Florida? It could serve a few purposes. 1. Bring in a much needed 14th school. 2. Brings in the Tampa market even more that it already has AND an enrollment of 47k. 3. USF has proven they can play with the big boys here and there and 4(and here's the part where Florida might be on board) would possibly damage FSU's recruiting without impacting Florida's. Florida and Florida State go back and forth on recruiting battles on the trail, and there are enough players to support 3 elite programs. With Miami possibly headed to deep shite land, Florida would be able to sell home state school + SEC and then South Florida could actually put up a battle for kids who don't want to go to UF by offering that same deal. It wouldn't cripple FSU by any means, but I could see a kid or 3 a year picking USF over FSU just based on the SEC....especially if Florida State keeps shitting the bed with the athletes they have.
Something to think about.

I find it hard to accept that they dont have their own stadium.

Yep. That's one of the negatives I could think of. I actually can't believe that they don't. I mean, UCF built their own stadium a few years ago and they haven't had half the success of USF. I guess their argument would be that Raymond James is a perfectly fine stadium and there isn't much reason to sink several million into a new stadium but I dunno. Maybe if they joined they could make it happen.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Tampa Bay fan. I'd salivate at the idea of going to RJS for a road SC USF game, and then go Sunday for a Bucs game.

I I think they would be a great add, they have a great potential, I think they could be a Big program in the next 10 years. One problem though, I don't think the SEC would want to wait till JAN 2014 if they joined today, 27 months.

You're also talking about the same Tampa Bay market that has some of the worst attendance figures in the NFL and MLB.

Why would they have to wait that long?

All Florida and Georgia teams to poorly in professional sports attendance but fantastic in College sports and Nascar.

Tampa is a cool city and a good sized market and I was wondering if USF would be an decent option. But after thinking about it, I don't think they would. I'm not sure USF has that big of a following. Also they have really bad academics (would be by far the worst in the SEC) and from what I understand (please correct me if I'm wrong) it has more of a "commuter school" feel to it.

No it's def a commuter school. There's still worse options IMO, but dont' see this happening unless several others decline first

Too soon. Too new. Too unproven. Even so, could be another FSU in the making. Time will tell.

No, no and NO!! I lived in the Orlando/Tampa area for 5 years, and USF is nothing more than a commuter school. They have no on-campus stadium, absolutely no history/tradition, and uniforms that look like they belong in the old USFL.
We need to go northeast, specifically an NC or VA school, if none available pick up WVU and move on....

quote:I totally agree with you. Just like you did, I'm still living in the same general Tampa area for 5 years and see USF as one that might be up and coming, but has a while to go before they are a proven product. So I don't see them in the SEC now either. I just mentioned that thing about FSU because I remember when they weren't all that much.

They don't have much of a following, a lot of their students cheer for one of the other state schools. It is still largely a commuter school.
Tampa is a huge Gator area anyway, adding USF doesn't give anymore attention. Heck, even the local TV and radio stations don't give them much talk.

A team that plays in the Big East yet has never finished a season ranked in the top 25? No thanks.
