Louisiana BCS schools

Louisiana has enough of a population base and more than enough instate talent and football culture to support another decent AQ school.
I know all of the non AQ schools get made fun of around here, but do you see any of them trying to make the jump while this expansion stuff is hot. Are any of those schools legitimately trying make the jump and have the resources and boosters to make it happen. They probably should have been putting themselves into position to get promoted a long time ago and it might be to late, but I know the borderline AQ Conferences would love to move it La if not just for recruiting purpose, but also to move into SEC territory.

No. Much like ohio st we are the school the state supports.

Louisiana is too small. We have trouble filling LSU's roster from Louisiana. We have to go out of state. You want this state to try to fill another roster without watering down the talent at LSU?
Louisiana is served best when LSU is the top dog, the borders are locked and we can have LSU focused on beating Alabama.

Tulane was actually decent when they were in the SEC and Probably would still be competitive today if they hadn't messed up and bolted from the SEC.
It just seems that it's huge opportunity being missed. Kind of like what was told to Nick Saban before he came to LSU and what is being said about A&M now, "Sleeping Giant." Of course I don't think that any of them could be LSU or have the potential of A&M right now, but still in the right situation where LSU's leftovers that get diluted too far at smaller schools here or go out of state would have a viable option to stay home and compete with the big boys. With the right leadership, I could see one of them being an Okie lite.

Won't happen. The only state school, other than LSU, that has been competitive (aka winning) on a fairly consistent basis over the past 20 years is an FCS team.

bullshite compared to other states a 2nd Louisiana team wouldn't be a problem.
-If Tulane would have stayed in the SEC. They wouldn't be that much worse off, or maybe better, than Vandy, State, Ole Miss.
-How many other states have 5 FBS teams in the state. A Handful?

The problem is Louisiana has too many schools period. With the small population you can't support:
1. La Tech
2. Tulane
3. UNO
4. Nicholls St.
5. McNeese
6. UL - Lafayette
7. UL - Monroe
8. Southeastern
9. Northwestern St.
10. Southern
11. Grambling
12. Centenary
1. La Tech
2. Tulane

im greedy. i dont want anyone artificially challenging LSU. i certainly dont mind 3rd tier schools filling rosters in LA, but dont want a situation where we'd lose 3/4 star guys we want.

Exactly! When your state population is less than the metro population of Houston, there is no way you should have so many schools.

Nah, LSU pretty much cherry picks other states. We would do just fine only in La. Check out where NFL players come from.

That's what I'm saying, if one of them could distinguish themselves from the rest, the instate talent wouldn't get so diluted amongst them, and players who don't get offered by LSU and sign out of state with AQ schools would at least have an option to play here. Remember La is always #1 or #2 in NFL players per capita in the country.

Notice all of the states with less D1 recruits than La that support multiple successful AQ schools, and when you factor in in that La. is usually in the 8 to 9 range for D1 recruits, but also usually 1 or 2 range in NFL players per capita, that tells you that there are a whole lot more kids not being noticed here at the early levels, but are talented enough to play with the best of the best in the NFL.

i don't think the La talent is too spread out. i have contended for over 40 years that La has too many colleges. our economy cannot and has never been able to absorb all of our graduates. the remaining div 1 talent (what LSU doesn't sign and the few that leave the state) is spread out over too many teams. just my opinion.

We need less colleges in Louisiana, or at least 4 yr colleges. Is there really a need for 3 4-yr public universities in a 30 minute driving radius of Ruston-Monroe?
IMO, LSU will always be the top dog in the foreseeable future. If many of these schools were to close and one of the ones left found a decent conference (CUSA,BigEast, whatever else) and made some TCU-like noise in it, they would have a pretty decent following, possibly get up to 40,000 attendance or more.
IMO LaTech has the only potential to do this, due to its geographic separation from LSU.

La is about the same size as Alabama and has roughly the same number of recruits.

FTL, curious what kind of order that list is in? Is that athletic relevancy? Or football relevancy? My friend here in Lafayette would just love that! He thinks ULL is 2nd behind LSU in the pecking order.

Based on that number, I think Louisiana has too many. The list of other SEC states based on FBS schools is below. North Carolina and Michigan both have 5 and Florida, Texas, Ohio, and California are the only ones with more.
LA (5) - LSU, ULM, ULL, LA Tech, Tulane
AR (2) - Arky, Ark St
MS (3) - Ole Miss, MSU, USM
AL (4) - Bama, Auburn, UAB, Troy
TN (4) - UT, Memphis, Vandy, MTSU
GA (2) - UGA, GT
SC (2) - USC, Clemson
KY (3) - UK, Louisville, WKU
*Florida's 7 is the only one with more than LA
