I'm so Happy the Student Athlete is the Priority in this Realignment

As many of the University Presidents and mainly Pac 12 Commissioner Larry Scott continue to lie and realign totally based on how they can get the most money off the backs of the Football Student Athlete you have to wonder how the coaches and players really feel. It's such a sham that these University Presidents who have never built and run a successful business are screwing up the landscape of college football. And the NCAA is making sure that each student athlete cannot make any money off their success while having no legal right as an organization to do so. (I think that is right) It's looking like the chickens are about to come home to roost and the legal profession is licking their chops.
This has all the signs of a big huge mess and is funny as hell watching these amateurs negotiate the legal mine field of massive changes of college football as we currently know it. And all we want as fans, coaches and football players is to see our schools football team play our rivals on Saturday's in the Fall. Do we as fans have any power in all this? Aren't we the ones paying for all this with our participation? And aren't our teams players and coaches doing all the hard work? Why are we in this mess with these arrogant Presidents making all the decisions??? Why aren't the coaches and Athletic Directors running the show on Football Realignment? After all, the coaches are the paid millions to coach. Why can't they decide how the conferences should align? I bet if the coaches made the decisions all our conferences would be aligned geographically so we fans can easily travel to games.
I must say I'm happy we have Commissoner Slive and the SEC is strong as ever and not in danger of breaking up. Kudo's to all our SEC bothers who have remained strong and committed to the SEC!

Football is driving the bus. Little if any thought is being given to the other student athletes. What about the volleyball & B-Ball teams traveling from NY to FL in the middle of the week? These are the kids that will pay the price for this nonsense. Certainly won't help graduation rates.

From a Pac-12 perspective, I think the traveling is a little over stated. For basketball we usually play a Thursday-Saturday schedule. Schools usually travel to one school on Thursday then stay till Saturday and play the counterpart (UCLA and USC, Oregon and Oregon St.) Most of the programs already fly wherever they travel and the extra hour it'll take to get to Texas or Oklahoma I don't think will make a huge difference for the conference.
Graduation rates havent really suffered in the conference, schools have been able to afford it. For the West Coast schools it really doesnt make that much of a difference because everything is so spread out already.

marchballer, no disrespect meant but Texas schools are more of a southern entity than a West Coast. I do agree if there is going to be a conference that reaches from the state of Washington to Texas and Oklahoma it sure helps having Arizona and Colorado. But no one can tell me Texas and Oklahoma schools are not a better fit for the SEC. And at this point they will not even consider the SEC because the School Presidents are driving the decision.
It's laughable that they keep saying the academic ratings of the SEC are too low for them. What ever happen to joining a business to make it better and stronger??? It's a huge smoke screen, the Presidents of Texas and Oklahoma are hijacking their Athletic departments to the West Coast so they can socialize with higher academic institutions. It does not surprise me because Texas has given ZERO leadership in the Big 12, they just keep milking the conference for their own benefit at all the other schools expense.
I'm wondering if Larry Scott can convince the PAC 10 schools to let Texas keep more money than everyone else.

No disrespect taken. Having lived in both the West and the South I can tell you it is a completely different culture and I don't see UT and OU fitting in well with the original Pac-8 schools. Just different mindsets and perspectives. I seriously don't see Texas joining the conference unless they are willing to seriously reshape the LHN. USC is not gonna put up with Texas taking more of the revenue and the original Pac-8 schools would back them imo.

By all accounts, Texas would be fine with everyone getting the same TV revenue in the Pac 12/16 if a way can be found for the LHN to be a part of the Pac network but with mostly Texas specific content.

I'm was coming here to post this same topic. There's no way a conference system not based upon geographic proximity can be sustained long-term.
Should we go to four super conferences, where the basketball and golf teams and those student athletes who travel to play their sport more than just once a week (a la football), in 8 or 10 years the university presidents are going to feel so much heat from the non-football coaches, athletes, fans and constituents to put more emphasis back on education. It is simply unsustainable to treat small-time sports the same way the business of CFB is being run.

Texas will not last long in the Pac 16 once they realize they can't field a competitive football team because they're not playing middle of the pack teams anymore. Another reason why I think the inevitable downfall of this current phase of knee-jerk conference expansion will eventually take retract into something similar to the current/past structure of collegiate athletics.

I agree, the student-athletes in the non-revenue sports are going to take a beating with all this spread out geography. I love college sports, but the hypocritical nature of it really hurts sometimes.

This money grab is shameful. Can't say I'm surprised at the lack of of integrity by these schools and conferences, still very disappointed in this restructuring as a fan and CFB purest.

My respect for A&M has gone way up by how they have handled their situation. They are moving next door to the best and strongest athletic conference. Don't know why Texas and OU are running from it other then they want an easier conference to compete in.
