Depends on what you want to use it for. Are you a collector? Or more practical? That .30-30 is more than adequate to do whitetail and home/ranch defense.

The AK and AR are probably more fun at the range (and cheaper on ammo.) I am a no frills kind of guy, so I love the first two.

I can see it, but I'll post another one anyway.

I'm both.

You've got the cash, why not get all of them?

Two reasons:
1. I don't really have the cash.
2. The wife would murder me.

I am getting old and boring, but my tastes run differently than they used to.

I bought a Mosin Nagant at the last gun show, and I am all about trying to make smallish groups, with iron sights, at 100yds or more. I am going to take it to an Appleseed Project this fall I think.

I am actually looking to buy these maybe this winter...

Well if thats the case then I'd forgo all of them and get a Judge.
It's only a matter of time before the government restricts the sale of such a destructive machine.

FWIW, I hear the rebels in Libya have been using them to shoot down Gaddafi's helicopters, but take that with a grain of salt because that info came from unverified source.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay? I have been waiting for Cabelas to put theirs on sale for 99$. When they do they sell out fast though.....

I walked out of the gun show with a very nice one, with a pretty good looking bore... for $120. Its very accurate, and kicks like a damn mule. Definitely invest in an aftermarket recoil pad if you get one.

I am considering getting my C&R license and purchasing some antique, not that the license is required.

I think I would prefer American rifles over Russian.

I hope you prefer spending 5 times as much for a rifle of equal function.

A decent 1903 or M1 will cost your between $750 and $1000. Its not because its 5 times the rifle.

I am aware, but the idea is appealing. When I first looked into it, I was fairly surprised at the pricing.

Yeah. I would love to have a 1903 and a Garand as well. But I just couldn't justify the price for myself at this time. Heck, I can get a Mosin, a Swiss K31, AND a German Mauser... all for the price of one decent Garand.

Or, as my buddy has done... purchase a handful of Mosins and start playing with them... adding a new stock, scoping one, painting one camo... etc. The Mosins are cheap, and very accurate rifles, that can hunt anything on this continent. From a pure collector standpoint, there are so many of them out there, they aren't that impressive. But as a toy... they are the best value you'll find. Ammo is dirt cheap too.
