MWC may already be close to getting an automatic birth now, apparently. From the article:
"The Mountain West is still waiting to learn if it will receive temporary BCS status in 2012 and 2013 as a result of meeting a series of benchmarks over a four-year period that concludes after this season."

Would be awesome, I would still like to see if C-USA can get some left over Big East or Big12 schools but this would be good to. especially if it's BCS

You probably treat it like 2 different conferences and then have the winner of each play in a championship game.. That's my suggestion at least. Like the old NFL-AFL.

Although not a great comparison, the WAC was was a 16 team conference for a few years and that didn't work, thus the 8 teams broke away and formed the MWC.

Offered the opinion last week concerning not stopping at 16.
Here we go. Conf USA/MTNW plus Big12(10-1) plus maybe Boise. 24 team, 4 division nationwide conf.
That leaves the MAC, WAC & Sunbelt. With current members less one (Boise) they total 32. One monster 8 team 4 division conference or realign to 2 16 team conferences.
Madness!

This has been needing to happen. Wonder how they align the teams, and who gets left out of the merge. They have 12 and 6 which would be 18. I don't think anyone jumps to 8 teams, although they could.
