Les Miles' obligation is to what's best for the team, not for Lee or JJ. Right now, the team is doing well and responding well to Lee. If JL was screwing up, then considering a change would be justified.

Since he is not, there is no justification for pulling him.

I tend to agree that the "roll with it" factor should play into any decision; Lee is doing well right now. But I can guarantee you that we will happen upon a close game at some point this year. Knowing this, the coach is obligated to weigh the pros and cons of a disruption early on against the cost of not having your best player in a position to succeed once we meet the big dogs in the conference later on this year.

Having seen Lee do well over the last few weeks, I can't say emphatically that JJ is the better option. The fact that he was starting would suggest that the coaches felt that way, however.

I'm glad we can have this discussion civilly for once.

I think the same goes for Shep. Right now, Lee and OBJ seem to have developed some chemistry. I don't think you disrupt that by just inserting Shep because he's eligible again. Give him his chances in games, and if he outperforms OBJ, then he starts.

Playing time has to be earned, not given.

It's obvious the coaches believed JJ was best for the team since he has been the starter for a while now. I don't believe in the just roll with it philosphy at all. Many kids are asked to step in and contribute when a starter is out for whatever reason. Regardless of how the backup plays in contributing to the win, I would go with the guy who I felt the last few years was best for the job. Of course if JJ would come back soon, you slowly work him back in the mix and get him in game shape. So this may take a week or so. Game plans change week to miss so JJ is not missing that much from not being there except conditioning and throwing to receivers. The longer this lingers though, LSU will have to make a big decision if JJ gets is allowed to return too late in the season.

I am not trying to answer "WHAT MAKES SENSE".
I am going to give you my perception of what I expect:

If JJ is really ever reinstated, then I would bet you anything he sees the field in short yardage situations, both inside the 5 and on 4th and 1.

Other than that JL is going to start until he messes up.

And if its late in the season before JJ is reinstated, JJ may also be #3, behind Mett - if/when JJ returns. That is, if Mett gets to replace JL due to some minor injury or just gets reps due to LSU being up by a zillion in some games, and if Mett does well, then, because Mett is a pure passer and JJ is not, Mett will move up to #2 and maybe even move up to #1.

And regardless of whether JL or Mett is #1 when/if JJ is reinstated, JJ is not starting unless the #1 does not get the job done on the field (due to chemistry and also the pure fact that JJ would not have been in the mess he is in if he had not made at least one mistake that night, being out of bed at 2 AM.
I could see JJ getting playing time in short yardage vs Bama.

Now.... we shall see.
