This could affect all kinds of outcomes, including wherever the longhorns might land - or threaten to land, which of course would affect where FSU might stay or threaten to go ...

quote:

The discussions show how the trend toward 16-team super conferences that has concerned many college athletics officials appears to be inching closer to reality. If Syracuse and Pittsburgh switch, the move would be difficult for the Big East to overcome. They are two of the conference’s most important programs. Syracuse is a founding member, and Pittsburgh joined the league in 1982, three years after it formed.

UPDATE: see CBS story Saturday AM. Applications sent + $20 million penalty to exit already in effect as of last week:

Lots of university presidents are gonna need a few weeks off in October. They haven't worked this hard in ... well, maybe ever.

Feels good to be an Aggie right now. At least a commissioner has publicly acknowledged our move. Has to absolute panic for some folks out there, and will probably lead to some crazy results next week.

No Rutgers though. Could this be the death of the Big East or will they just take in Kansas, Iowa State and Baylor?

I think this proves that the ACC is going to do the poaching instead of being poached. Let's get West Virginia (Big East, which appears to be the poachees) and call it a day at 14.

That's an indication that FSU is staying. Add UT & TT & the first "super" conference is born.
Big E can survive with the Big12(10-1) cast offs providing TCU doesn't have a change of heart & Rutgers does not go Big 10 with MO.

If WV goes SEC, Big E follows the Big12 & 9 teams are looking for a home . In that scenario, the madness will not stop at 16!

Ain't this fun?

CBSSports now reports that Cuse & Pitt have sent applications to ACC

AND

that ACC presidents voted unanimously last week to increase penalty for leaving to $20 million, effective immediately.

quote:

Also, at last week’s ACC presidents meeting in Greensboro, N.C., the league’s presidents “unanimously” voted to increase the ACC’s exit fee to $20 million. This takes affect immediately.

IF it's accurate that the the $20 million exit fee is already in effect, that would seem to keep all current schools in the ACC ... meaning no FSU, VT, or any other ACC school to SEC.

This is the only article that says it's been increased to $20. Most of the ones I've seen say it was increased from $10 to $13M.

Interesting. I think both have a decent program and would add to the ACC. Big East going bye bye

All this time we thought the big 12 would fall apart but the big east looks to be in trouble now. This is crazy, looks like this board will be around for a while this year.

I have never had this opinion. I have always thought that the Big 12 would take members from other conferences ie: Big East, CUSA, MWC and reload their numbers.

I would love to see USF in the in Big 12. They are a team who, in the last three years has beat:
1.) Notre Dame
2.) Miami(FL)
3.) Florida State
4.) West Virginia
5.) Kansas
