What are the NCAA rules on dating someone rich?

Was curious if athletes are allowed to date rich girls (or guys- for the female athletes) and receive fancy dinner dates and gifts from them?

a family friend dated an Alabama player during the Dubose era. The NCAA had a long talk with her dad about a couple of nice shirts her dad gave the player for christmas and his birthday.

So would a female athlete have to wait until after graduation to get her engagement ring for fear that she'd sell it?
