There will be six Thursday openers for the second time in as many seasons. Those games include Phillies at Pirates, Blue Jays at Indians, Red Sox at Tigers, Braves at Mets, Nationals at Cubs (Stephen Strasburg at Wrigley Field would be a must-see) and Dodgers at Padres. Scully will be back in the broadcast booth that day, returning for an amazing 63rd season with the Dodgers.
Ten games, including nine more openers, are scheduled for Friday, April 6. The Orioles will be host that day to the Twins, and it will mark the 20th anniversary of Oriole Park at Camden Yards -- the HOK-designed ballpark that began the now-common trend of retro-modern parks. Cincinnati always starts its season at home, because that is baseball tradition, and in 2012 it will happen on this day against those same Marlins.

All I need is the Marlins to move into the AL within three years, and then the Cubs will win the World Series in 2015, according to the Back to the Future trilogy.

also.. pumped about Giants v. Rangers and Yankees v. Braves

So the Yankees and Braves play two series?

This was my first thought as well.
I said I wish I could go back to the beginning of the year... put some money on the Cubbies!

yeah looks like they did an AL East vs. NL East thing, except the Red Sox just play the Cubs.

Why do the Marlins have a new stadium? Do they even have fans? When did they become the Miami Marlins?

Watching Latos vs. Timmy Jim before I head to the gym

nice! i have both of them going in fantasy.. playoffs round 2. need a low-scoring game with lots of Ks and a win, not a no-decision for both.

I have both of them going too. I'm 10 out in an ESPN rotisserie league. Sat Romero today against the Sox, never like starting anyone against them.
Latos' fastball seems lower in velocity today, he's usually 94-95.

they're building a new stadium because they don't have a big fanbase right now. Sunlife up near Fort Lauderdale is a terrible venue for baseball. their new ballpark will attract a lot more people, IMO. plus if they can somehow get Ozzie Guillen to be their next manager that will for sure put butts in the seats.
here's some a mock ups

They haven't - yet.
November 11th is the big day - new name , new logo, new uni's, etc.

Actually the ballpark they play in now is in Miami, NOT Ft. Lauderdale. They share the park with the Dolphins. They get no fans cause Miami is a really bad sports city and the owner dismantles any decent Marlins team they cobble together. The owner thinks a new stadium in Miami solely for the Marlins will help with attendance, so he decides to get the taxpayers to help pay for the stadium.
We'll see what happens. Tickets are pretty cheap now so it's not the price. The team and its management lost a lot of goodwill with the people in Miami. However, I think there will be genuine initial interest in the ballpark but nothing substantial if they can't invest in their players.

The Reds not playing on the first day of the regular season is a gigantic crock of shite.
frick you, Selig.

Is that a retractable roof they are going to put on the new Marlins park? I know a lot more fans would go if there was some A/C going on.

what if he let them wear special 9/11 hats would that make you feel better?

Braves are one of the two NL teams who play a full interleague schedule with no NL series mixed in, I like it.
Also, I'll never get used to calling them the Miami Marlins. Just like some others will always be the Anaheim Angels, and New Jersey Nets to me.

one interesting aspect of this schedule, it pretty much solidifies that Houston will not be moving to the American League... at least not by 2012. fully expect to see some form or minor (or potentially major) realignment for 2013 after the Stros get a new owner approved.
also, the way this post season schedule plays out (World Series game 7 falls on Nov. 1st) they've left themselves room to add an extra wild card team w/ a 1 game playoff.
