FSU is on the clock - its trustees forming committee to explore its options

I think the rumors of horns to ACC are going to blow up in either bevo's or the ACC's face
quote:
Florida State has begun taking forceful steps to prepare itself for conference realignment, whether that means joining Florida in the SEC or becoming part of an ACC super conference that may include Texas.
With recent talk of a possible formation of four super conferences, Andy Haggard, chairman of FSU's board of trustees, said Tuesday that his school has begun forming a committee that will explore the university's options. He says FSU should be prepared for any scenario, whether it's moving to another conference or staying in the ACC and having a say in who else may join the league. That could mean Texas, which will seek to leave the Big 12 if Oklahoma and Oklahoma State jump to the Pac-12, which is expected.

FSU will not come to the SEC.

Why not? They got an invitation and refused in the early-90s. What's changed since then?

Honest question...if FSU beats Mobilehoma this week, will UF ever reconsider their "gentleman's agreement" stance?

UF will block and fight them tooth and nail.

I can understand UF's position to a point... adding a new state to the SEC is better than adding another school from an existing SEC state...in theory.
The problem is, FSU right now is the highest-ranked school in the country that might be interested in joining the conference.

Why? One of the biggest misnomers in this whole discussion is the myth that there is a gentleman's agreement between the school presidents that says they will not invite a school from the same state.

The SEC should take them if they are willing.

There is bad blood between the schools.

UF is not more important than the rest of the SEC. Hell, all additions to the SEC have the potential to increase competition to certain teams. The expansion is too important to limit our options for a single school.

A lot of smoke there to that effect. Doesn't mean there's a fire, but I've seen/heard it too many times now to dismiss it out of hand.
If I had to bet on one team never getting into the SEC, it would be Clemson. I think the whole "gentlemen's agreement" started as a quid pro quo between South Carolina and UF vis a vis Clemson and FSU. And it expanded from there.

Man, I'd love to see FSU in the SEC to put them back in our schedule rotation.

If UF has managed to persuade USCe, UGA, and UK to join it in blocking FSU, in exchange for blocking Clemson, Ga.Tech, and Louisville, then the Noles aren't getting in.
It's just a question of whether you believe the "gentlemen's agreement" exists or not.

I really don't see Slive doing anything to piss Machen or Foley off (or any other school for that matter). I don't think anyone really knows the UF stance, but if UF doesn't want them in, I don't think it goes much further than that.

Why is THAT a problem and WHY does the conference need to bring in another powerhouse program? Seriously? The SEC is hard enough as it is. Bring in Louisiana Tech for all I care. Soften up the in-conference schedule a little.

FSU tried to get into the SEC for 16 years and UF sponsored them for 15 of them, as they sponsored Miami at one time also. When the SEC finally did offer them an invitation they went to the ACC. I think partly because they could roll through the ACC yearly and partly because the SEC shite on them 16 years in a row. Would they join now if offered, who knows, but I don't think UF is the issue.
If you have a credible source link it. Otherwise it is just interwebz hearsay.

If it was just UF objecting to FSU, the Noles might get in anyways. I don't think it's just UF.
I've also heard that UA and AU don't want FSU. They would be recruiting basically the same area.
